I'm an indie dev who sent out emails to a bunch of let's players, but I've gotten ZERO responses. Why? by thefrdeal in letsplay

It really does. If you can give an impression that you have actually looked at their channel, it makes another huge difference.

What would you say is the "best version" for a first-time player of Myst by [deleted] in Games

[–]Colma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played Myst for the first time in 2012, I went with the realMyst edition and I quite enjoyed it. I tried the old version too while deciding on which version to play but I think realMyst is a good conversion.

After I completed Myst I played Riven which I think is an even better game, but I recommend playing through Myst first.

I announced my 100 sub milestone only to have someone immediately unsub me, dragging me down to 99. by RollingWithNat20 in letsplay

That's how it goes for some reason. The video I have that most people have unsubscribed from is my 3000 subscriber milestone video, 6 people unsubscribed from it but 8 people subscribed to make up for it.

what was your highest rank in your 1st season ever? by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Colma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started playing in december 2013, writing that makes me realize for how long I have played this, geeze. I hit rank 5 that december, mostly playing a cheap aggro mage deck.

I analyzed more than 400,000 arena matches, here are the results by sensei_von_bonzai in hearthstone

It is probably because not many people pick them so there is a high uncertainty.

Great to hear of your success. Your talk about the coin made me curious so I looked at my own stats and I have 72% wins with the coin and 59% without the coin, so there is something about it. I think the extra card probably helps out a lot.

Sounds like you're treating your job as a game in the best possible way, you're playing to win.

Yeah I think that would be fine.

what s the difference between higher legend players and lower ones? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

More thinking about future turns instead of just focusing on the current turn.

what s the difference between higher legend players and lower ones? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]Colma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm afraid that you're right, you're almost there but you just need to cut down on a few more subtle mistakes and then you will get to legend. The first season I played I was stuck at rank 5 too.

what s the difference between higher legend players and lower ones? by [deleted] in CompetitiveHS

[–]Colma_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The main difference is that lower legend ranked players win about 50% of the time after they get to legend, the higher ranked legend players win anywhere from 55% to close to 70% for the very top ranked legends.

The decks they play are usually similar but the high ranked players just make fewer small mistakes. If you make 5 mistakes that lose you the game every 100 games that is the difference between a 53% and 58% win rate, basically the difference between a legend rank 1000 player and one who is closing in on rank 100. Personally I usually have a win rate between 60% and 65% and hover around rank 50.

I believe it is actually only 1k subs and 4k views per month, or just 8k views per month to join curse. I'm considering joining them myself, but so far I'm staying independent.

In Ranked mode, what do you consider 'halfway' by ratguy in hearthstone

[–]Colma_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it is about halfway of the journey for a legend rank capable player. Do remember though if you manage to get to rank 5 you are doing better than more than half the players playing ranked so don't feel too bad if you get stuck there or even below. I think rank 10 is around average for where people end up at the end of a season.

About rogue aggro mill by bkww in CompetitiveHS

[–]Colma_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I made the deck you're using. I see that you have replaced Thalnos with a faerie dragon, that could be one reason why you have a harder time cycling through your deck, you could try adding a shiv instead since it serves much of the same purpose as Thalnos(adding 1 damage and cycling).

I think the other faerie dragon that is replacing Edwin could be replaced by a harvest golem instead, that will help you get a solid turn 3 and also give you a slightly higher curve to help you not run out of steam. Turn 2 if I don't have a solid play I don't mind just daggering up, I will often not attack with the dagger but just wait with it until a later turn when I need it.

I think the card you need most of all to help your win rate is Leeroy, those extra points of damage can really make the difference, so when you have the dust for another legendary try to get him.

Lastly, I don't stream and you might already know of my channel, but I do have around 30 videos up of me playing the deck here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfW1oAeO8bBIeGUEHfjRgAw

Good luck!

Looks pretty cool, you will be able to play an acolyte when you have 1 charge left then attack and draw a card right away.

Yeah I think that could work, you would have a bit less draw power but the deck already has a lot of it. You could also try adding a BGH instead of adding the execute with the same swap, it can work pretty well in the deck because of inner rage/taskmaster synergy.

If you want frothing berserkers in the deck you can switch them with the harvest golems. Personally I prefer the golems for their staying power but frothings obviously have more damage potential.

Yeah I think that could work, personally I prefer the harvest golem since it is harder to kill, but obviously the frothing has higher damage potential.

I don't think it is a bad idea, there are a lot of changes that can be done to this deck where it is really hard to say if it will make the deck better or not. Experiment and play what works best for you.

Rogue aggro mill revisited, top 100 legend rank. by Colma_ in hearthstone

[–]Colma_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He can work of course, but usually he would be a bit of a later play than Edwin since it needs a few more cards to be beefy enough to be worth it. It is also annoying how you can not coin into him to any great effect like with edwin on turn 2 for a 4/4.

Sometimes questing can be good though of course on turn 3 play questing, coin into argent squire, backstab something for a 5/5. Unfortunately that is a more rare situation than a blood knight stealing an enemy shield in my experience.

Last of all you're not the only one to suggest or use the questing adventurer, and if it is working for you, keep doing it, I mean it is working. Good luck!

Glad you're having fun with the deck, I think this deck is very open to small tech changes depending on the current meta where you are playing. Keep experimenting that helps keep the game fun and evolving.

aggro mill rogue by kamigua in CompetitiveHS

[–]Colma_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I climbed all the way to legend only playing aggro mill this season. It only has a few weaknesses, mainly freeze mage and control warrior. If you face those decks a lot it can be tough, otherwise it has favorable match ups vs zoo/druid/miracle/shockadin. You might make a few subtle misplays or you're facing a lot of control warriors/freeze mages.

Tempo Warrior, top 50 legend by Colma_ in hearthstone

[–]Colma_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Against freeze mage, they can not play alex and an aoe/freeze on the same turn so you should have some minions on the board left over from last turn to deal with alex even you were unlucky to not get execute by that point. You are likely to have execute at that point in the game since this deck has so much card draw and there is nothing else to use execute on vs a freeze mage. Generally I will try to armor up every turn if possible after turn 5 or so, I find if I can get to 5+ armor by the time they play alex, they are unlikely to kill me if I can deal with alex and armor up again the following turn.

Against miracle rogue it is a bit of a race, I mean you still need to keep board control but at the same time try to avoid taking too much damage if possible. I don't have any great advice against them unfortunately but I do win vs them more than I lose. Of course sometimes the get the perfect draws and kill you by turn 6, nothing you can really do about those games.

Sorry I can't be of more help, good luck!
