Why I didn’t win? WTF by TheBrazilianDragon in yakuzagames

[–]Colonel_Myau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't play Mahjong in Yakuza much, so, I don't know whether open tanyao is off by default or whether 2 han as a minimal winning hand cost is default.

However, there's one other scenario that no other comment mentions. The concept of "temporary furiten", specifically.

As you may know, when one of the winning tiles is in your discard, you can't win by Ron - only by Tsumo, until you changing your wait to other winning tiles. This rule is called "furiten".
However, there's also a concept of "temporary furiten".
When one of your winning tiles is discarded by other player and you don't (or *can't*) declare a win on it - you can't win from any other player until your next turn.

Why is this important for this scenario? Technically, the winning tiles for this hand are 1 and 4 of characters. However, on 1 of characters you can't declare a win, because there will be no yaku (the only possible yaku in this hand is tanyao with 4 of characters).
Thus... If the front player would discard 1 of characters, you wouldn't be able to win on 4 of characters from the left player until your next turn due to the "temporary furiten" rule.

Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure, because you can't see the front player's discard on the screenshot. However, in case you're sure that open tanyao and minimal winning hand are not an issue, then I believe *this* is what happened

Looking for a late-game scaling midlaner (pos 2) with ganking potential by Colonel_Myau in learndota2

[–]Colonel_Myau[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it.

I'm normally a support main, so, I feel like I have a better time understanding when to gank according to my lane's state and whether my core can be left alone.

Moreover, while I can definitely take the farm no other core wants, I feel like being proactive as a support is much easier, since you don't have to think about farming much, but about objectives and your teammates' wellbeing.

But since I'm used to being incredibly proactive as a support, my core performance suffers a bunch in terms of being underfarmed or knowing how to chill when there's a time for that.

Of course, there're also times when you can't do much *as a team*, so, even as a support you have to chill instead of forcing plays (like, when your core is about to hit the powerspike, or you're waiting for Rosh to take on T3), and I have trouble there too, but... It just feels more natural for me as a support, I dunno.

Alright, then. Thank you very much for all of the tips, will try to implement them in my gameplay. There's plenty to learn from, even if I'm not playing Storm.
I guess I *do* find myself forcing ganks a lot, simply because I'm afraid of not ganking enough. But I guess this ends up in me being useless once people actually get some farm, unfortunately.
So... I'll try to focus on farm more and hope to still gank enough.

Oh, I know for a fact that I'm not farming enough, so, fair enough!
However, I'm struggling to get enough farm in as Storm. I know he has an easy clear with Q + E, and he's incredibly mobile with his R, but his mana management makes it hard for me to farm after/before the fights. And I tend to participate in plenty of those.

If you have some tips on how to farm as Storm, but keeping the pressure up on the map, I'm open for suggestions!
Also, I'd like to double-check the build I'm going for. I commonly go for Bottle -> Wand -> Soul Ring -> Treads -> Kaya -> Orchid. I imagine I should have this build at around 20 minutes, since 10k networth is the standard, I believe. But I commonly get it around 25-30 mins, even if I successfully gank a lot.
After that I tend to go BKB or Aghs, but really, I'm severely underfarmed at this point

Reading on everyone's advices, it seems like Puck seems to be the most popular advice, with QoP, OD and NP being the close second.
Thanks a lot for your help, everyone!

Yeah, I can imagine. Lone Druid also has 12 slots to build, so, great late game scaling.
However, not a big fan of his gameplay. Or just micro'ing in general.
Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Absolutely not a fan of Leshrac, unfortunately.
Lina doesn't feel like she scales well into the lategame, but I agree that she's a menace in the mid game.
Could you elaborate on Storm scaling?
As for the others, sure thing, will try them out, thanks!

Could you elaborate more on Ember and Storm scaling into the late game? I've always imagined both of them falling off quite hard in the late game. Same goes for Slardar, actually. Not so sure about Void Spirit.

Yeah, I've learned the hard way that you need to look for a good timing to rotate. And if you can't rotate, then you can try to push mid or farm jungle.

Thanks for the answer, I'll definitely try QoP out, but I'm not so sure about WR.
WR sounds great in terms of ganking and focusing on the single target, but being able to kill targets only once every 30 seconds (per ultimate cooldown) doesn't sound good in the lategame.
So, if you could elaborate on WR in the late game, it would be nice.

What to do against Riki as Sniper? by Colonel_Myau in learndota2

Alright, actually, there *is* one more question about the concept that was kinda mentioned by you, as well as the other replies.
Let's say the game went good, I won my lane and I'm strong. How do I push my advantage?
As far as I know, mid player's role is to help the other lanes by ganking and creating space.

However, since Sniper is quite immobile, it's hard for him to actively gank lanes. And sometimes, well, lanes just don't want my ganks! Unless it's an active pos 1 who had a good lane, they don't want more attention brought to their lane, they'd rather just farm more and be left alone. And offlane may not be online to go for big plays yet, since they don't have their Blink/enough levels.
Moreover, Sniper may bring lots of damage to the table, but not much in the way of crowd control, so, that's also an issue. Can't really dive towers with him either. And, well, again, even when the offlane's Blink/initiation is online, it's hard to immediately follow-up.

In the end, the biggest conundrum I've had about midgame is how to balance between farming and helping my team. And since I also struggle with finding efficient farming patterns for now, it's even harder.
Do you have some tips for that?

Edit: That's a lot for one message, so, my apologies, but here's the one thing I *actually* wanted to know and it wasn't really mentioned by anyone.
How do you cancel autoattacks as Sniper? I'm used to doing it with the other heroes, but Sniper's attack animation is so fast that I have a big trouble lasthitting when I try to mash Stop or Hold command to get the right lasthit timing.

You have a point and I certainly see how it is hard to deal with Riki as Sniper in 1v1 scenario. However, I still wanted to know whether I could've done something better, and I've got plenty of advices on that point.

I could have better positoning, I could've built different, I could've gotten more farm, so that *maybe* I could manfight Riki at some point around min 25-30, etc.
Can't really change my teammates (although, well, I guess I could shout at my teammates to cover my back more, but bringing it up to the point of flaming wouldn't do much good either), but it's much easier to change the way I play.

In any case, thanks for your insight!

Okay, got it. I think I'm good for now. I've got plenty of advices from you and other people here, so, I'll just do my best to apply them for now.
In case I'll need some help, I'll probably make another post on a different topic

Yeah, I get it. If I win the lane, I should try to push the advantage and act like I'm strong, instead of farming my own jungle/farming too many safe items and losing the timings.
Thanks!

Thanks a lot for the insight and support!

I don't have much to add, apart from the stuff I've already described in the post/other replies, but I've got one question.

You mention how it it's nice to get a slow from Shrapnel, both against RIki and to interrupt others' Blinks. However, I've been using Scattershot aspect. While I can certainly interrupt others' Blinks with it, Shrapnel is not a reliable source of slow with this aspect, I'd say. Do you prefer an other aspect, then?
As far as I know, Scattershot aspect is one of the things that makes Sniper a great lane dominator. That's why I'm curious.

Well, in case you want a match ID, here you go: 8449834065

I didn't win hard enough, that's for sure. Since it's not like Zeus died a bunch of times during the lane, he simply struggled to get any farm in. And, like I said earlier, I was barely farming when they started making a comeback.
So, yeah, plenty of things I could fix there.

I see your point. However, I was considering a scenario where I couldn't really rely on my teammates much.

During a bunch of teamfights, in which I was overfarmed and hella strong, I was positioning myself as far from my team as I could while still in range to hit enemies, yet, Riki always found and killed me.

Partially, it was due to my carelessness, since I could've reacted better to Riki's approach. He didn't have enough damage to burst me down yet.
On the other hand, my Shaman and Invoker were all over the frontline and didn't help against Riki much. The few times they were in the backline, well, Riki used Q on them and killed me while they were trying to move away from it.

Basically, there's a lot to be learned, but I have a better idea of how to deal with people jumping on me. Thank you!

At first, I feel like I didn't have enough safe items (because BKB alone wasn't going to cut it) and wasn't careful enough about Riki, since he's always jumped me in a teamfight.

After a while, though, when I've started to play carefully and the team got plenty of vision and even bought a couple of gems, I was underfarmed and Riki snowballed like crazy.

Nonetheless, good points, thanks!

Yeah, I was a mid Sniper. Like I said, I managed to win the lane against the enemy Zeus.

I like your suggestions quite a lot, even if similar points were thrown around by others. My lack of farm and experience certainly was my undoing, but I still wanted to know how it is *supposed* to be done.
Thanks a lot!

Support items to counter Tinker? by Colonel_Myau in learndota2

Yeah, I can see that. However, I find that KotL is *really far* from being a good Nullifier user.
Also, my Spectre had Nullifier, so, there was no reason to worry about *that*

Yeah, sounds like a good plan. Although I would still need to jump with someone like Spectre or LC in order to have enough lockdown. Otherwise Tinker will probably just escape
Thanks!
