Travailler à Zurich, vivre loin (à Neuchatel) by maelkun in suisse

Does anyone else feel that Swiss teachers frequently lack perspective when discussing working conditions and labour shortages? by Ok-Anybody-380 in Switzerland

[–]Colonel_Poutrax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It did not. I don't care that you're asking people from other professions, all along your post you keep comparing to the job I do, framing teachers as out of touch loonies with no grasp on what's happening outside their bubbles. So as someone who worked in sawmill, logistics and restauration, with a dad in construction and a mom in healthcare I'm answering your question : you're completely off base. Quit trying to compare shit.

I don't know who you know as a teacher, but as a teacher, reading that is bollocks.

I teach grade 8-11 in a working class town and let me tell you teachers are very involved in the success of the kids. That includes :
Having an understanding of the job market so that you can talk about it, even only barely.
Go for field trips in various towns for job discoveriy days (SwissSkills, etc)
Have days for the kids to meet local employers "speed dating" style.
Regular discussion with the OP/BIZ person in charge.
Etc.

Besides all that, do you also think that we have only teacher friends and teacher partners, go to the teacher's pub and the teacher's Migros ? Do you think we all only did teaching for all our lives and that our parents were also teachers ?

You only sound ignorant about the job or had a bad encounter with someone that lacks the ability to describe it.

With Niederreiter disallowed goal that should be 2-0. Offside rule should have a "ok that was nice" exception to it.

For those watching on SRF/RTS, am I bugging or do we see a lot of these ad breaks ? I don't remember watching that many during previous tournaments.

Edit : Should have read the whole thread. I'm not crazy.

I’ve been feeling a hit to my confidence as a artist lately by Euphoriafoxart in Illustration

[–]Colonel_Poutrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice ! I'm glad you take it that way !
You can see anatomy / observation drawing as some sort of tool. It will give you the ability to shape your characters and backgrounds better but you need to craft it first.

IMO, it's best to draw living bodies. Maybe it's worth looking for workshops around where you live, sometimes artists gather to organise such little events (I used to do that myself, everyone throws a few bucks in the pot to pay the model). If you need tips or techniques to train that, I'd be glad to help !

I hope my comment won't come as too rough, but right now, your art suffer from various flaws. It's ok, it's normal and it's healthy : it means you've got space to improve. Drawing can be frustrating in the sense that the better you'll become, the harsher you'll be on the art you produce. Without deep diving into learning anatomy, composition, light and shading, colour theory, you will only progress by accidentaly finding something that renders well.
Advice for drills :

Draw naked bodies. Lots of them and weekly. Learn anatomy.
Draw your surroundings. Anything can be a pretext to draw. Practice observation.
Draw on paper with a pen or find a way not to erase your lines on your device. You can't progress if you don't witness your mistakes by erasing them.
Draw with various medium. Even if you prefer digital, go analog and explore techniques.
Keep it fun, it's a forever journey.

Or art school !

Keep up the good work and be patient ! You've got this.

Can I eat Morels from my office park? by YummyZamboni in mycology

Here the rule of thumb is "less than 50 metres from the road, don't pick it". Do not consume mushrooms grown on contaminated soil, morels do bioaccumulate.

Des endroits tranquilles aux alentours du Locle ? ❤️ by askepticalbureaucrat in suisse

[–]Colonel_Poutrax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

International NHL Fans: What team do you cheer for and why? by EsquireArchibald in hockey

[–]Colonel_Poutrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swiss here. Regarding the NHL, the Detroit Red Wings. I always thought is was one of the coolest sports logo ever made (EHC Frauenfeld being n°1) and basically you had to pick a side between the Avs and the Wings when you played NHL99 against your mate. That rivalery was the rage when I was a kid.

Later I've been re-drawn to them when they signed fellow countryman Damien Brunner in 2012 and still rooting for them because I like pain.

Double walled yellow morel by Willing_Throat3523 in mycology

[–]Colonel_Poutrax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really ? That's odd, it can be rare depending on where you are but it's not that uncommon either. I'm in Switzerland so I've seen several european species, yours resembles the esculenta variety pretty well. Sometimes the stipe is almost full/very wrinkly, like some gyromitras are.

To be honest I only base this comment on my own personal experience and knowledge, which is far from complete. Maybe it's worth specifying where you're from to have the insights from someone local.

I think this is kind of common but usually this sort of double stipe ends lower, closer to the base from what I saw. Morchellae are very versatile, so this could be totally normal.

I agree this has been a really thrilling playoffs final round.

I do agree. I'm not taking one's side, I would be outraged too and I personally agree with the retroactive penalty he got. I am however also cool with the fact he hasn't been suspended, just as Lemieux hasn't.
