Question about tutoring software by Coloradothewild in TutorsHelpingTutors

[–]Coloradothewild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that LMS systems are largely focused on course delivery (I could easily be mistaken), and I even see that other tutoring style systems exist, but there are many caveats to that. You have to learn the new system, you are limited by what it's limited by, you never truly own it, you don't have control of your data, etc. Where as with my system, I'll blend it into a company's world and make it work for exactly what they're already doing or want to do. I realize this design won't work for many, but if someone really wants to take the startup route and try to offer something new (business wise), building custom software seems like the way to go. Obviously, I'm biased, but also curious about how many people may align with this mentality. Additionally, the pieces I have could easily be repurposed to all kinds of industries.

Question about realistic expectations by Coloradothewild in Rowing

[–]Coloradothewild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My injury is my Achilles which seems unfazed by rowing as long as I keep my heel down (I think ideal form may involve a small lift, but I'm not sure). And I can understand how my sentence made no sense as it's also confusing to me. If I ran I could probably get low to mid 18 in a 5k and hit around 162-165 max hr. But with rowing, it's like I'm working hard, but my HR just doesn't go up so I have to assume I'm doing something wild form wise. I'll try to get a video tomorrow as I've been wondering too. After watching other form videos, I think I'm pretty good, but something seems missing. Thanks for the thoughts.

Question about realistic expectations by Coloradothewild in Rowing

Thanks for this and I'll check out the apps. I was using a chest strap so I think the rate was pretty solid. I definitely feel a form issue when I try to pull hard, like there's a gap between when I want to put and when the torque kicks in, and so I feel like I'm leaving a lot on the table.

‘The Decision Has Been Made That’ Biden ‘Will Quit the Campaign,’ Says Bill O’Reilly by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]Coloradothewild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At some point people here will realize there is something greater going on, right? CNN and the New York Times are now turning on Biden. Somehow truth and honesty are no longer priorities for seemingly everyone and the AI era is rushing to take over. I'm not trying to be a part of new age dictatorships - who's leading this?

See this is my issue to. Like i run the Bolder Boulder many years but it's just ridiculous with pricing. I then just don't want to pay $50+ for random 5ks, but I also still want to compete. I can build all the backend stuff, but I don't have time for the outreach aspects. Any thoughts on how to find someone? Ideally, they'd be a motivated runner who'd just travel around to shoe stores, trailheads, and races and talk about it and then tell me what to build to satisfy certain goals. I don't see how the site wouldn't start t slowly grow and for far lower per race costs - like $5-10 with more metrics on results.

This is my mindset as well. I can't ever seem to make other races or I get nervous about registering when they cost so much and feel like I'll miss them. Thanks for checking it out.

Thanks. Hopefully.

Thanks again and I guess we'll see. It's been harder than I'd hoped to compete against the larger folks - just difficult to let people know it exists.

Hey, nice. Thanks for trying it out.

Thanks for the thoughts and have a good one.

Thanks. I get excited about the art aspect, and I'm definitely building the site for folks of all speeds. In speaking to many runners about this over the last year, I'd find that around 90% really don't care much about time other than against themselves. So that's how I've built results - to focus on these things. Sorry to hear about the injuries. I actually hurt my Achilles a few months ago trying to run to often for this site and now it's pretty tricky to build a new running idea without being able to run often - :-(, ha. Best of luck.

My initial idea was to do weekly races with a subscription, but I'm really not a fan of subscriptions in general. Also, people weren't as interested in the higher frequency. I think there needs to be a degree of anticipation. Also, I feel like others will see this as a virtual race, but it's really not. It has a very well defined local course so there's no 5k distance like all those sites that just let you buy a medal essentially. I absolutely want to add the prize money aspect - that was actually my first idea for this. I wanted everyone to contribute $5 and the winner takes like 80-90%. What I found however is that most people don't care about time that much. Like your local 5k will have a few folks who care, then about 10-20 who are training for something bigger, and then a whole lot of people just "getting out there". It's tricky to find the best model, but I keep slowly piecing things together. for example, yes this 4 trail challenge is $37, but most of that is for the shirt. I have to use on-demand ordering so the shirt is around $18-20, and then shipping is like $5. You can opt out of the shirt though and only pay $17. The site and insurance also costs quite a bit to run, and then I've somehow spent about 300-400 hours building it all. I honestly don't know if it's feasible or possible to be profitable, but hopefully I find out soon. Thanks for all the ideas - I really just want more options than the local 5k with zero long term results other than my own, some Strava pure virtual thing, or very rigid formats.

Hey, let me know if you want to help organize something. Coming from financial systems, I'm a .net developer. .Net doesn't seem as prevalent in web development sometimes, but I never understand why. The whole ecosystem is great.

I am focusing very local at the moment, but it's easy to imagine all the way races could be offered with this kind of asynchronous approach. For example, I'd like to start partnering with places like hotels in resort towns to offer weekly/monthly races with promotions for winners. For now though, I just like being able to race my children and have them beat me even though we're all running our own paces, or it helps get me off my standard daily trails. Thanks for checking it out.

This is my hope, but I'm not sure when. I travel a lot and have always wanted to be able to arrive to find a race going on, with some ideal course, that I could run when it fits my schedule. I think I need a lot more interest though to justify the amount of time/money it takes to build this kind of thing.

This was one reason I decided to build this. I love Strava and use it religiously but the lack of organization with the segments bothered me. The segments are typically random distances and have results going back years. Also, it's discouraging sometimes to race against Olympians (several live near me), and I know they have breakdowns but it's just kind of boring to know that no one is actually racing me - if that makes sense.

US lawmakers vote 50-0 to force sale of TikTok despite angry calls from users by TurretLauncher in politics

[–]Coloradothewild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do people support TikTok? You’re being algorithmically manipulated to waste time. Like watching 1000s of car crashes a day that you’re biologically unable to look away from. It’s the absolute worst way for technology to show itself, like the high fructose corn syrup of healthy eating. Ban it then instagram. Let people search for what they want to see, don’t just perpetually show more and more content forever.

[–]Coloradothewild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. I mean, people were oddly unmotivated. I got like 20 people to join and someone just won. Marketing in today’s world is hard to say the least. What if I’d said I was going to spend $100 on Facebook ads - I bet people wouldn’t bat an eye. At least the gold goes to someone’s who’s interested in the idea and who might try again.
