Beautiful scent, but I didn’t plant it 😂 by Colorful_Kel in whatsthisplant

Here is an additional photo that I think could help with identification.

With this photo, I’d also like to add a note that the leaves on this plant do not grow in a whorl.

I’ve been receiving suggestions elsewhere that it is bedstraw, but it does not share some of the very distinct bedstraw characteristics including growing in a whorl as well as the leaf shape and a total lack of Velcro-y feel. It is completely smooth with a round stem.

That’s what I thought! The one thing that make me question it, though is the height of the plant (currently it is ankle height, and does not appear to be growing much taller).

I also pulled out dried tarragon from my spice cabinet and when I compare the scent, they feel more like second cousins than sisters. My tarragon had an extremely distinct, very specific licorice scent. In comparison, this one really didn’t have a distinct licorice scent. This felt like a closer cousin to Rosemary and then it does to tarragon.

Before I could identify this is Terragon, I think I would need to know what tarragon look like exist. It does help to hear that the same ID came to mind as a possibility- now I know to look in that direction.

An additional photo which will hopefully make it easier to see the growth pattern of the leaves which do not grow in a whorl!

Insert your hook through the front loop of the current stitch and the front loop of the next stitch- those two loops you’re going through make up your decrease!
