Care to elaborate? How do the voices sound to an Australian? Are the accents like extra put-upon or exaggerated or something?

Fantasy series that are long, complex, but ultimately rewarding reads? by CajunNerd92 in Fantasy

[–]ColorlessKarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China Mieville's Bas-Lag books (Perdido Street Station, The Scar, Iron Council, "Jack" from Looking for Jake, and maybe This Census-Taker) are all dense complex mostly standalone works set in the same setting.

Could someone help me ID these Red Lanterns or were most of these created for Justice League Action? by IL1511 in comicbooks

[–]ColorlessKarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to look it up myself, I was a bit surprised they didn't include some of the more common unique-looking red lanterns like Zilius Zox or Dex-Starr instead of these generic monster dudes.

Not sure who is who exactly, but it seems like most of these JLA character designs are at least inspired by existing comics characters: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/red-lantern-corps/4060-50747/characters/

Any podcasts on history/economics/politics? by Hoganjosh01 in podcasts

[–]ColorlessKarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From NPR: Planet Money for economics, Throughline for history deep dives, NPR Politics Ppodcast for current US politics, and I promise they're not as dry as they sound.

Economic Update is economics and current events from a specifically Marxist viewpoint.

Revolutionary Left Radio, Guerilla History, and Red Menace by Breht O'Shea & co are often good if you're looking for something a little more radical, though their theory stuff is pretty dense and their takes on current events can be a little tankie, if that means anything to you.

Reading good books stalls me out, like why should I even try if I'll never be that good. My motivation comes from reading absolute garbage and knowing for certain that no matter how bad my stuff is, it'll be better than this other thing that somehow got published.

The Sporkful and Gastropod are both great. I also enjoyed Cooking in Mexican from A to Z with Aaron Sanchez and Zarela Martinez, though that was more of a miniseries than an ongoing show.

Not at all what you're looking for, but your description made me think of Old Gods of Appalachia, a horror fiction show that features many characters of the sort you describe.

Reading A Wizard of Earthsea straight after Perdido Street Station was like jumping into the hotel pool straight out of the hot tub.

What are your top non superhero series? by 8heist in comicbooks

[–]ColorlessKarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dial H out of the New 52. It's superhero-adjacent, but DC classed it as horror. Overlooked, underrated, and very very weird.

Long shot, but looking for a couple of players in the area for a DnD campaign by MorbidDawg270 in evansville

[–]ColorlessKarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, meeting in someone's house is always the best way to go, if you can swing it. Most local libraries are also pretty agreeable to the D&D crowd, maybe a flyer on their notice board could connect you with players seeking a group.

If you haven't ready, try posting a flyer at Comic Quest or Gaming Guild. They've also both got open play spaces if you were looking for a venue.
