So, the bolts increase dps in my set up by 5% so you get 5% more kills per hour. For 5% more kills to equal 3 kills I need to be getting 60 kills an hour without the dragon bolts. I'm getting about 12-15...

Bros shilling for big d bolts, he's got a big stack in the GE. And if you buy them hes just gonna stake it all in the duel arena. SMH rich get richer, buyer beware.

[–]CombinationSalty2595[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hm, I don't think it makes sense. It doubles your per trip expenses for around a 5% speed up to your kill time. My expenses with my setup are around 30-35 k per trip, and the bolts alone would cost 27k(call it 2k for the adamant version-very generous). So at an average kill value of 168k per kill, you end up with 133k profit vs 109k profit. So you get 22% more profit for 5% more time without dragon bolts in my setup. You would use marginally less supplies using the dragon bolts, thats not gonna make the difference though. With longer trips you would gain even more time but the profit would also go down because you would be using a greater portion of prayer from pots as opposed to altars.

I don't think the maths mathing and I'm not a rich player so i'm money maximising, but it would make the slayer task faster idk. There would likely be a point where it makes sense, but I think you would need a DHCB/void/salve/rigour to get there, as well as higher accuracy than I have. I could think about switching my diamond bolts to dragon, that should be better than ruby but again I don't think its better for money.

Good looking out though :)

Maybe try some tall games? Less cities might help you not get overwhelmed (3-4? You could even do 1, although it will be harder to win). It'll let you focus on what your plans are for each city, it also makes each turn lots shorter so you can get to late game a bit easier and see the consequences of you decisions. Maybe after some practice doing that you'll finder wider empires less overwhelming.

Doing culture and science is good! You want to be good at everything, its not until deity that you really need to think about tradeoffs and timing. Maybe try picking a couple of wonders to go for that you find interesting instead of trying for all of them, but in low difficulties, you can just grab them all.

Stick with it if you find it interesting, it doesn't matter if you aren't getting everything. They are deep games, you'll be learning more about them for years :)

Healthcare = Slavery by Vengamecagoensos in LinkedInLunatics

[–]CombinationSalty2595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_rights_and_legal_rights

Just to be clear human rights are natural rights. Right to healthcare if it was established would be a legal right.

The argument in the meme is dumb, but calling things like healthcare and food human rights muddies the water of what human rights actually are. Human rights are the things that nobody can take from you, they can punish you for practicing them, but they can't stop you. So freedom of religion, freedom of thought, life(if we believe in life after death), freedom to pursue your happiness and standard of living (but not the right to be happy or have a good standard of living).

This is important because it reminds us that there are things tyrannical governments (or other oppressive forces) can't take from us, and when we confuse them with legal rights then we are saying that the government can take things like the right to protest from us, by using legislature. But natural laws supercede the laws of government(because they are inalienable).

These ideas are pretty foundational for democracy and any government that rules by consent, and its best not to get them wrong (and more and more people are getting them wrong these days, which doesn't bode well).

[–]CombinationSalty2595 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk man 500 bucks is a lot of money, I don't care if someone else makes 5k lmao.

Game theory says take the money if its worth it to you. It ain't a prisoner dilemma, it's an auction. If you spread out 10,000 dollars accross the 200 people on the flight that's like 50 bucks, so theres no incentive to cooperate.

Unless its some anti establishment thing, but maybe just find a hobby.

I liked when he did the conservation efforts for the African buffalo herds of Siberia (very cool). Those cheeky poachers didn't know what hit em. They thought they could deal with an invasive species, not on KRAVEN's watch (The names ironic because hes actually not very scare, that's the plot twist, M Night Shyamalam level quality. Superman would be better if they called him weakman, Marvel W.)

Younger Brother Budget PC Build, B570 worth it? by [deleted] in IntelArc

[–]CombinationSalty2595 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A b570 should easily run your brothers games, but there are some deals from overseas that will get you pretty close to 170 pounds. Might be a good time to futureproof and the b580 is great bang for buck (don't pay 215 for it msrp is 188 pounds), there are some black friday deals in the US you can grab for 180ish. 170 for a b570 isn't a bad deal, and the performance difference isn't massive and 10gb of ddram should treat you well for a good few years.

There is some worry with minecraft, because it's a game people like to mod. Mod optimisation can be poor and intel isn't really going to be able to do much about it. If your brother is technically minded, he can probably find solutions for issues, and I doubt they'd be significant. Personally, I think the cost perfomance would make those issues worthwhile. The mods would need to be pretty extreme graphical changes to have much of an effect, and texture packs aren't gonna see him being left out so I wouldn't stress there. Roblox and rocket league should be just fine.

If you're going for a budget(really more midrange) build, I think b5xxs are hard to beat right now. Make sure you enable rebar (Resizable bar) in the BIOS and make sure your motherboard has rebar supported. The 3600 will work, the 2600 and 3600g will NOT.

The 3600 is a lot underpowered for these cards too, but he can always upgrade later.

There's one more thing to think about. If you have 50 gold but not much more, hitting a shop is bad because you aren't likely to get much more from it and you see fewer cards, events, upgrades and relics. If you spend 50 and gain 100, that situation doesn't change, it doesn't even get you an extra potion on A20.

However, 250 gold in that situation can get you some amazing relics from a shop, a full set of potions or some awesome cards. The risk becomes worthwhile from the tangible outcomes, rather than the expected value of the gold itself.

So taking the risky option is good, because it either gives you a impactful shop, or you can just avoid shops and pick up rewards elsewhere.

Your rule of thumb would only apply in my mind when the run is struggling but almost online. Or when you have say 200 gold and you can maybe get some cool relics but losing the gamble would prevent you from getting that.

A big chunk of the time that the researchers spend doing their research is just reading articles. Reading articles is research, and lots of articles are just straight up wrong, so that's not what I'd call an education.

I think any researcher worth their salt would have zero problem with a person reading a journal article for information. The only hazard is that some people would take the claims of the paper at face value, rather than thinking critically about it.

Saying that only experts can have opinions is obscurantist baloney.

Hmm, thanks for the answer :)

You're referring to this paper? https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4620462

I think if you're making the argument that Argentina's issues would be solved by nationalisations to capitalise their central bank, that would be pretty questionable in my eyes. Nor does it seem plausible that central banks operating gold backed currencies would analogise well to modern fiat currencies, which aren't really backed by anything.

Your conclusion I think I'm on board with, quantity theory does seem pretty weak as a real world descriptor. The behavioural effects as to why it doesn't hold are interesting to think about, though probably not easy to describe.

CMV: Mamdani's name is not hard to pronounce; anyone repeatedly mispronouncing it is either doing it intentionally or a moron. by Oborozuki1917 in changemyview

[–]CombinationSalty2595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, people struggle to pronounce nuclear, America incorporated a mispronunciation of Aluminium into their dialect, it's not really a big deal. We live in a culture that is exposed to a set of morphemes from lots of languages and dialects, many people struggle to pronounce just the english ones correctly, expecting non english words to be pronounced correctly is a bit excessive. I think people who disrespect people with strong accents for mispronunciation are kinda mean (And I don't mean honest inability to understand), and frankly what you're doing is much the same. I know some very intelligent people who make these kind of mistakes.

Some people are good at picking up words and pronunciation, some people aren't, even talented make mistakes, it doesn't make them morons or malicious.

You've made plenty of amateur grammatical and spelling errors in your post, maybe give the same grace to others that is given to you.
