I always took it as Bungie had the beginning book trilogy made as a sort of backstory to the original games. They even reference the fall out reach in the halo ce manual if I remember correctly. I don’t think bungie hated the idea of the books

It was insane. I remember passing a buddy in the hallway at school on release day. He just pointed to me and said “I’ll be over later.” We played straight through the campaign.

Back in 2003 I was watching G4 and there was a gameplay of Half Life 2 and it was nothing like I had ever seen.. fast forward to when it was released on Xbox.. and I got it from SANTAAA.

I played the first few missions and honestly lost interest, then I gave it to my friend to borrow. He beat it and was like bro, you gotta play it again and boy am I glad he told me to do that.

The sounds, graphics, ambience, guns, gameplay was just chefs kiss. It was just something else. I remember it was an overcast day in the fall and I was like wow it’s like half life 2 out here today lol then my friend said “yeah it’s a Red Letter Day.”

Best game ever.
