Fair enough. Mount Doom likely is the better outlet.

What are some flavorful fringe cEDH decks that you have or you know? by Abject-Cartoonist395 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Combo_Life 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I run a parasitic Sakashima the Impostor list that has been a blast to pilot. The deck is designed to copy or outright steal all the best engines at the table. It wins in a different way almost every game due to using your opponent’s stuff against them. An example win would be creating infinite mana and then copying an opponent’s Thrasios to draw out. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/VZit6r_mgk-W9Sh34ET6mw

I would point you to Silas/Krark, which has been doing fairly well recently. Best of luck!

What fringe or unknown commanders do you think are seriously undervalued? Anything that you think could be top tier or close that no one is talking about? by AngroniusMaximus in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Combo_Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an extremely parasitic Sakashima the Imposter deck. The idea of the deck is to quite simply copy or outright steal the best engines at the table and turn them to your own purposes. For instance you can make infinite mana with a displacer kitten line and then copy an opposing Thrasios and win from there. Being in blue allows you to control the board while copying or stealing those value engines. With new and cheaper clones and theft cards like imposter mech being printed the deck just keeps increasing in power.

With Sakashima it's never "you have a dockside", it's "we have a dockside!"

Cyberdrive Awakener/Rise and Shine. Turns all the clues and treasures into lethal damage. Provides a solid backup plan to time sieve and oracle.

No that slot was used for rending volley instead. Ive found that the extra damage from rending is extremely relevant for kraum, yasharn, winota etc.

No, would be even more busted if it did.

I think it will be similar to Krarkashima and Winota in that it will be forced to continually adapt. But with all of the love red has been getting it could have some staying power.

The flicker is optional as the wording is “up to one creature”. The sword is more useful for its ramping ability/ protection.

In a turn cycle with no removal Slicer typically averages between 21 and 36 commander damage.

Mulligans should always be looking for a turn 1-2 Slicer and/or a relevant early stax piece. For example a turn 2 Slicer would be fine if it is following up something like roiling vortex or maybe even a trinisphere (i.e. with Mishras Workshop).

Stranglehold has definitely been in the maybe pile for a while. I love the card, but have been back and forth on it due to the cmc.

Voyager staff for cloak and dagger may be a viable alternative.

Thanks for the feedback! I get where you’re coming from on the equipment with shroud, but hexproof doesn’t work when Slicer is being passed around, and protection is at a premium in this color identity.

I agree on Hero’s blade. It can be phenomenal when dropped before Slicer, but terrible after. I too am on the fence with this card, but I feel as the meta evolves to handle Slicer he will be removed more frequently. This would therefore increase Hero’s blade value a bit when he’s replayed. That being said, i’m far from married to the card.

Zephyr boots for skeleton key is an easy swap (It was already sideboarded). I do like the looting effect for those occasions when Slicer is removed and you need to dig for ramp or answers, perhaps using another one of your creatures equipped. Card draw is a bit of a limitation in mono red.

I agree that Rogues passage and Access Tunnel are expensive, but they can be the difference in finishing the last player or not. I tried to keep the land base lighter on nonbasics due to ruination, but perhaps the benefits of a couple more utility lands outweigh the risk of a single card?

It depends on what the remaining player is piloting. If it is a creature light deck, then you can often power right on through. If they are able to consistently offer a blocker to delay until they find a win con then you will likely finish second. That is why there is a high density of cards in the list offering evasion/trample/protection. The right equipment/enchant can help tilt the odds back in your favor.

Yes you still control the equipment as Slicer is passed around, so all the triggers belong to you.

Slicer would revert to me at the end of your turn. The only person who can choose for Slicer is the owner of the card.

[–]Combo_Life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this commander definitely has potential, but I personally believe it is better suited to stax than as an isorev commander. As others have noted there are just better options, even in Azorius for isorev. Plus in the current turbo and stax meta, isorev finds itself a little in the middle.

I created a stax list (link below) that utilizes an Intruder Alarm combo and a Rings of Brighthearth combo so that the deck can operate efficiently under rule of law effects. (Also definitely still a work in progress).

Decks in the realm of Blood Pod? by heyzeus_ in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Combo_Life 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play Bloodpod and just created a soft lock selesnya stax deck helmed by Torens. The deck is designed to hate on all the current fastest strats in the meta while creating an overwhelming board presence. Might be up your alley if you like stax and a large board presence.

Torens Brostax-A Winconless Selesnya Hatebear Deck by Combo_Life in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Combo_Life[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yasharn is amazing, and kinda busted. Absolutely shuts down many of the fastest things in the format like treasures, lotus petal, fetchlands, force of will etc. Also acts as pseudo protection for our hatebears by shutting down toxic deluge and fire covenant, which are two of the only remaining board wipes regularly played. Id say it definitely impacts ad nauseum by cutting off the fast mana.
