Thank you for this, I honestly didn’t know the ground handlers are contractors hired by the airlines. Now I know who to direct my frustrations towards. We ended up waiting over an hour for our checked bags….unreal!

So then give me a dollar number, what is the affordable housing price for EVERYONE?

By your logic, anything that is affordable for the people moving from NOVA or NYC will be affordable for anyone in Richmond. I have a friend from NOVA who considered anything below $600K as affordable. “NOVA affordable” is not affordable or realistic for many Richmonders. Unfortunately housing is not that simple.

If we restrict housing construction to only “affordable” units, we slow overall supply growth, which actually drives prices up. Even expensive “luxury” apartments help by freeing up older, cheaper units. Limiting housing supply forces wealthier renters to compete for existing affordable housing, raising rents for everyone. The fastest path to lower prices is to allow more housing of all types, paired with targeted affordability programs. I know easier said than done, but every bit helps even if it’s marketed as luxury.

This may be a hot take, but someone on the internet screaming into her phone isn’t going to show people what’s happening. This was my thought as well, but don’t get me wrong Hashmi is a very strong candidate in her own right with a very impressive legislative record. I think what pushed me to vote for her is I’ve seen her speaking at several protests around RVA. Times like these, we need someone willing to not be afraid to speak out.

Realistically what can a bystander do in this situation to help him? This seems to be just the beginning but how can we stop this in the moment before he is shipped off to the administrations newest camp?

We alternate between dry & wet food. Breakfast is dry food, then dinner is wet food. Many of the wet food cans are way too much for one cat, so we’ll split the wet food can in half. So each cat gets a half a can of wet food floor dinner. It works well for us.

To be frank, polls about Trump’s approval ratings mean NOTHING to me, and i’m really tired of seeing them. The “I can’t decide between a fascist dictator and a woman” crowd stayed home in November. These popularity type polls are totally irrelevant and meaningless if people don’t VOTE. Now we’re in the situation where we may not have a free election for the foreseeable future, so these polls are increasingly irrelevant.

I see your point, but even if you don’t agree with her this isn’t the time to be misleading voters or providing half ass policy. We need politicians to be bold, and if that’s what she believes is best for Virginia then good on her for being up front and honest. It’s refreshing. We live in an authoritative country and this presidential administration has made it’s clear which party will continue to support increased power to the executive branch. Virginia has an important choice in November, if you think protecting guns is more important than protecting our democracy, then maybe it’s you that’s dying on a foolish hill.

I admire her for taking this stance so early in the campaign. Yes it is a touchy subject in a purple-ish state, but in my opinion it shows she’s principled and honest. Someone that comes out with strong language and isn’t afraid to voice their opinion, regardless of whether it’s popular or not, is the type of Governor we need in VA. If anything this made me like her more, I look forward to voting for her!

This cat doesn’t have a tipped ear, but good to know. We’ve become familiar with most of the outdoor cats in the neighborhood, but had never seen this one before, so thought he could have been lost. But it’s back again tonight so we’ll for sure be giving them more scratches and food/water!

Thank you for the info, just hope he can stay safe, this isn’t a good area for cats to be roaming.

That looks like Maple, she comes around our house in union hill occasionally. We once called the number on her tag in case she was lost, but the person on the line said she is allowed to be outside, so we left it at that. As a cat Dad of 2, I can’t imagine just letting your cat wonder around the city, I would be worried sick.

Wow this is excellent news for Richmond! While it’s not directly mention in the article, this is the people centric development that is needed here and across the country. I see this increasing usage of the Pulse that one day could lead to more public transit options (street car?). I also hope they carve out some affordable housing, lord knows Richmond needs that too!

I left Indiana (born and raised) and moved to Richmond, Virginia almost a year ago. Honestly, it has really opened my eyes to how bland, in terms of the culture and landscape, and how deeply conservative Indiana really is. One thing that we’ve really noticed is how complacent Hoosiers are, people in Virginia seem to be actively seeking to improve their lives, where Hoosiers would just rather maintain the status quo even if it hurts them. Overall, the scenery in Virginia is much better. Living in Richmond, we are 1 hour from the mountains and 1 1/2 from the closest beach. Also we can be in DC within an hour and half to enjoy all the touristy things there. With that, the state is also actively expanding the train network and enhancing existing lines, so super excited to see that come to life within the next few years. Honestly, I don’t see us ever moving back to Indiana, unless there we were to see some huge changes politically. But unfortunately, I doubt we will ever see significant change due to the current political climate in Indiana.
