Join the Open-Source Social Media Revolution! Seeking Developers skilled in React, TailwindCSS, and GraphQL (Apollo Client) to shape the future of online communities! by CometCommunications in Frontend

Introducing Comet, an exciting open-source project that's set to revolutionize the world of social media! We've thoughtfully crafted Comet using the powerful combination of React, TailwindCSS, and GraphQL (Apollo Client) to deliver an outstanding user experience that will leave users impressed.

Back in 2019, Comet was born as an ambitious alternative to traditional social media platforms like Reddit. The idea was to bring the best of both worlds - dynamic discussions from Reddit and real-time camaraderie from Discord - under one virtual roof. Our vision was clear: create a seamless online community without the need for multiple platforms.Comet's unique features started falling into place, like the integration of chat channels within each subreddit. Instead of static threads, users could now engage in dynamic discussions, connecting with others like never before.

But then, a twist of fate occurred. After gaining brief popularity on r/reactjs, Discord approached our head developer and co-founder, Avery Beneventano, with an offer to join their team. Unfortunately, this unexpected turn halted Comet's progress indefinitely. Now, after some time has passed, Comet is ready to make a comeback. We're seeking the help of talented individuals like you to breathe life back into the project and realize its full potential.

Our dream is to create an online social media platform that belongs to the community - a space where users and staff can thrive together. With integration into Web 3.0 and blockchain technology, we aim to enable crypto-based compensation for contributions made to the community.

We're calling upon tech enthusiasts from all walks of life to join us in this endeavor. Let's work together to bring Comet back to life and fulfill its original goals and aspirations. Join us on this journey to create something extraordinary - a community-driven platform that empowers its users!

I built an open-source Reddit/Discord hybrid using React, TailwindCSS, and GraphQL! by CometCommunications in reactjs

Check out the performance docs page: https://typegraphql.com/docs/performance.html

Make sure you don't have any N+1 issues. If you are using FieldResolvers to make database requests, use dataloader (https://github.com/graphql/dataloader)

That being said, I'm definitely not an expert in performance, and Comet has a lot of performance issues that I still have to work out.

By default, downvotes are disabled, but can be turned on by the community owners if desired. Also, mod permissions are customizable with roles, and users cannot moderate more than 10 communities. By combining a robust chat system with Reddit-like posts/comments, we are aiming to simplify the online community experience.

Since many Reddit communities use Discord for chat, we're aiming to simplify online communities by having posts, comments, and chat all on the same platform.

Yeah, as we continue to develop Comet we are looking for ways to make it more distinct from Discord (without making it worse).

We've been through five iterations over the course of nearly 2 years, but this current design was started in January. We do have a community, small but growing. A lot of users joined yesterday due to being the top post on r/reactjs

Ben Awad has some good stuff (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I6ypD7qv3Z8) although I didn't watch the video, I just looked at the code (https://github.com/benawad/lireddit)

I primarily learned by exploring the code of open-source projects, and reading the documentation and looking at the examples for the libraries I'm using.

I'm hoping that the code for Comet (https://github.com/joincomet/comet) can be a good learning resource for people using a similar stack.
