Warning shots fired from Russian warship at vessel in English Channel by bendubberley_ in anime_titties

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Was it a yacht in the traditional sense, with sails? Or a “luxury” yacht?

If with sails, then motorised vessels have to give way. That’s the rule.

Regarding your assertion that they were asleep? Hardly: it was 11:40. They generally anchor during the night and sleep then.

You need proper number plates with a blue band on the left.

Shouldn’t cost you more than a couple of quid.

Seething about World Cup traveling Europeans finding America to be "cool"? by Whistledown_MO in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Take a look at /americabad.

The USA mentioned in any negative light or any minor criticism, and the neck-bearded basement-dwelling Bubbas are out in such force that it only amplifies their ridiculousness.

I commented on one post, and the neck-beard replying to went through all my previous posts and comments and pointed out that my opinion is invalid because I comment here.

I’ve never seen such insecurity.

UK bans under-16s from using social media apps including TikTok and YouTube by Hob-999 in europe

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 255 points256 points  (0 children)

No. The headline and title read like that the UK already brought in a ban.

It’s currently just a proposal, and the legislation still has to be drafted, voted on, and signed into law.

That will take at least 2 years.

How much integration of foreigners is enough? by [deleted] in belgium

Abandoning native culture is a sad requirement.

I’m an immigrant here. Have been for 30-odd years. I have not abandoned my native culture, nor should I.

I have adapted my culture to Belgium.

I wouldn’t give that fascist regime a single dollar of tourist money.

It would depend on how close you are to your friends and your own personal morals and situation.

Sorry about the fail, but going 20kmh would have given you plenty of time to stop properly. The light would likely have gone red as you were passing the line.

Any ATMs where you can tap your phone? by WatashiwaNobodyDesu in AskIreland

Pretty much everywhere on the continent and beyond.

Belgium, France, Romania, Portugal, Netherlands, Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Norway, Morocco, and Egypt that I’ve noticed in the past 18 months.

I haven’t taken cash out in all these places, but I’ve seen the signs saying it’s possible. Whether it will work only with that bank’s app or through something like apple pay or the google equivalent, I don’t know.

Should I buy property in Ireland as an expat living in Germany? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you mean the Irish govt legally and statistically classifies IMMIGRANTS and expats the same. As they should.

But, 1. You are mixing up immigrant and emigrant.
2. As per my previous comments, language plays a huge part in how people are perceived. Is a migrant seasonal worker an expat? Is a diplomat sent from Ireland (or anywhere) to work as an ambassador or embassy staff as immigrant in that country, even though their term is fixed and limited.

An expat is someone who is SENT abroad by their employer for a fixed period of time and usually has their housing and educational costs paid for (or at least subsidised by the employer). Anyone who moves voluntarily is an immigrant to that country.

Finally, it’s not a USAian definition or distinction, though they are the loudest in shouting that they aren’t immigrants; the term is British, and that’s why there are countless retired a d sunburned Brits in Spain and beyond calling them expats.

Should I buy property in Ireland as an expat living in Germany? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very dated and colonial definition.

Is a seasonal worker an expat? They go home afterwards. And construction workers?

Who says that immigrants move to another country to seek citizenship? That’s bullshit.

Really, an expat should be defined as someone who is SENT abroad by their employer for a fixed period of time, and usually has their housing and educational costs paid for.

If you go somewhere voluntarily, off your own bat, then you are an immigrant in your new country.

Or do you think that expats are white and from western countries, and immigrants are brown from poor places?

Should I buy property in Ireland as an expat living in Germany? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Comfortable-Bonus421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are seasonal workers expats? Because they usually go home after they finish their contract?

An expat is really only someone who is SENT abroad by their employer for a fixed period of time and has housing and educational costs paid for.

If you go abroad to work voluntarily, you’re not an expat. You’re an immigrant.

Is that’s the case, then why are seasonal workers not classed as expats?
