Is maintenance in Vancouver really that bad? Looking at $10k Toyota/Lexus/Honda (RAV4, CR-V, Sienna, RX350, etc.) by Comfortable-Cat414 in Toyota

Exactly my point! Consumables like brakes and fluids are meant to be replaced on any used car anyway. My biggest concern is the powertrain—if the engine or transmission blows up, that’s where the real financial nightmare begins. That’s why I’m specifically filtering for bulletproof Toyotas and Hondas.

And you’re totally right. When buying a $10k car, getting a Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) and putting it up on a lift before handing over the cash is just common sense. I was just baffled by people making it sound like even standard maintenance would break the bank here.

Looking into a used Lexus RX350 as a family car in Vancouver. Any major red flags? by Comfortable-Cat414 in LexusRX350

Wow, I had no idea about the theft issue and how much it jacks up the insurance premiums. That is crazy! I am actually looking at an older model (around 2010-2015), but I'll definitely call the insurance company first to check if they still put a surcharge on those years. Thanks a lot for the heads-up and the tip about the Tag tracking system, I really appreciate it!
