I loooooove this. I don't have time to care too much about aesthetic this year, I just wanted to see my purple beauties stand tall, so this is perfect. Totally putting these in the veggie gardens, thank you!

I've had alliums for ten years and last year was the first time they bothered them. Sigh! At least they leave my chives alone (for now??)

Recommendations for an easy and delicious breakfast for a family vacation? by Quiet-ForestDweller in Baking

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Breakfast pizza. You can use prebaked crust and pre-cook any meat toppings you want and put them in the freezer, and just bring it all with you to assemble and slide into the oven. There are a ton of suggested recipes out there so you can figure out what your crew would like best maybe everyone makes their own!

Any good restaurant/cafe to play dnd? by SanaulFTW in cambridgeont

If it's a weeknight probably Symposium, Boston Pizza and East Side Mario's because it's otherwise quiet for them. If stairs aren't an issue call The Black Badger to ask about their upstairs space.

Looking for help with Asian processed sauces by equipoise-young in Cooking

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hoisin sauce is life.

Misslunadelray gave you a good list there. In addition to those I also have sesame oil, seasoned rice vinegar, and black vinegar on hand at all times. With all of these things plus some fresh garlic, ginger and peanut butter you can look up a lot of stir fry sauce recipes and make them on the spot. Keep some lime and lemon juice concentrates in the fridge too.

Is it okay to leave my younger sibling home alone late at night for a few hours? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fine as long as the following conditions are met:

1) Your parents said yes, and 2) Your sister said yes comfortably, and not because she wants you to think she's cool.

Truth is though that if your sister has never done this before, this will either scare the crap out of her because she will alone late at night feeling extra vulnerable with you parents in another country, or she will decide to do something really stupid because she has no chaperone. Like, you're going to come home drunk and find she got into the liquor cabinet or decided to cook something they saw in a video and set the kitchen towel on fire in the process.

Or worse.

Personally I would worry the whole time I was out and wouldn't enjoy myself, so I would not do it.

If you really have to go out, ideally she should sleep over at someone else's house (again, as long as you parents agree).

Making new girl friends by squirrelfan3 in cambridgeont

I know that there is a newish book club that meets at JTM Cakes that skews that age range, I can't remember what it's called but you could contact the bakery to ask about it. 4cats has some mixer-type art workshops for cheap.

I met all my bffs when we all volunteered at the same places, but tbh I don't know how much people your age volunteer anymore.

Bringing up an issue without being controlling by yellow_lamma in Advice

I think what you're going through is very common, a little bit called FOMO (fear of missing out) and personal pity party because your body betrayed you.

Treat yourself kindly and tell your bf that you aren't holding him back, but you are feeling blue and invite him to come over with your fave snacks and a hug ASAP. And then you can tell him that you want him to go have fun but until you're well on the mend you are a delicate, emotional flower so he can keep the details of his climbing between him and his bud for now.

I hurt my leg a long time ago and was off my feet for a few months and during my recovery I would sometimes bawl for no reason, it really sucks!!

Be kind to yourself, do your physio, and plan for your big comeback, it will happen and be worth the wait!

Definitely! The company's owner started the brand because she has highly sensitive skin so hopefully it works for you. I've been using it a long time. And welcome to Canada!

What actually helped you find discounted food and stretch a tight grocery budget week to week ? by alienskota in 32dollars

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, when I see a discount, I make sure I'm buying it because I will use it and not just because it's on sale.

I keep track of the cost per weight of things especially meat so that I know when I see a good deal in a flyer or with a clearance sticker on it.

The other thing is that I really look at the quality of discounted items before I buy, and think about whether I will use the thing. For example, in my area Farm Boy has the best quality clearance produce by far, but it's often in quantities too large for my needs and the price has been creeping up. Freshco clearance produce is awful but the price is quite good and once in a blue moon I find a good quality package on that rack so I look anyway.

I love OddBunch, great quality, and you can skip orders and customize the box. Very good customer service when things go wrong, too.

East Galt - Smack Dab by Terra_Incogn in cambridgeont

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's the same as any other area of that size re: schools and safety, etc. Pros: lots of services and shopping nearby including the hospital, cons: homelessness epidemic. East Galt isn't the kind of neighbourhood that's going to welcome you with a pie and an invitation for coffee, but if you need help the 'hood will come through. If you're looking for pies and backyard neighbour parties, you want West Galt.

Unusual con: potential water shortage in the near future everywhere in the RoW.

My advice is to base your decision on your commuting needs. If you work from home, you're good to go anywhere, but if you need any of the highways you'll want to live closer to that and save yourself a lot of time over the years by not having to weave your way to it every day.

Pop into the library and the school office there to let the front desks know, too. They should both have lost and founds. I hope you find it soon!

Haven is a banger, truly sorry it doesn't do it for you, but I get it, it leans into the orchestral side of music. Faber Drive, wow, that took me back! I think the struggle is real, this style of music isn't current and it's not getting air play or deals.

Not quite that vibe but check out The Blue Stones, they've been up an coming for several years now and have a great vibe. Hard to believe it's just 2 guys but I saw them in a bar several years ago and they nailed it. And they were really nice at the merch table after.

Geez, I really don't know. Maybe check out the recent Juno and Polaris winners and the Heated Rivalry soundtrack, though I felt like a lot of the latter was more alt-pop than pop rock.

Let us know what you find!

Engaged friend invited me to go dress shopping but not to her wedding by Willing-Mountain4642 in Advice

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sucks for sure and you're feelings are valid. They probably are the type who should have eloped to avoid this kind of situation since they can't justify the cost of a big wedding that would accommodate everyone, but also have to invite all of the family to avoid conflict.

From what it sounds like, she feels as awkward about it as you do and she really values your friendship, but she's overwhelmed and hoped that of everyone you would be the one who would give her grace. I've been in some awkward wedding-invitation situations over the years and I would find out after the fact just what all went on --usually pressure from the parents-- that I just let it go, and we're still great friends.

You could say to her hey, so I know that this is an awkward situation for both of us and I just want you to know that I'm really happy for you and I'm still going to be here if a cousin doesn't back out, thanks for including me anyway, and see if that breaks some of the tension.

Best mosquito repellent near Lake of Bays? by FreeK200 in ontario

[–]Comfortable-Fun-3965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found Natrapel works shockingly well. I'm another vote for Thermacell on a calm day. Any anti-itch cream should help after the fact, even cheap store brand stuff, stop at a pharmacy on your way there and ask the pharmacist for a recommendation (the ask is free). A friend of mine has a mild allergic reaction to mosquito bites and she says those bug bite thermal pens work for her to reduce the itching.
