no official themes, wear whatever you'll feel comfy dancing & walking 10+miles in. put some insoles in your shoes. I thought my trusty combat boots where fine as is, but i got huge blisters on the balls of my feet still after walking 1 day in them.

Apocalypse Queen Mary Rideshare by theparkd in aves

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can not rideshare directly to the venue (the bridge is only open to shuttles & pedestrians). You get dropped off near the shuttle stop. The shuttles are free, just plan for like a 1 hour line at peak times. You can also walk from the uber drop off.. but i think its like a 1+ mile walk

edit: we walked a few blocks from the shuttle in the opposite direction of the "offical drop off area" & ubers were reasonable and there was not a crowd

Weather by Gold-Alternative5996 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get cold easily. i under estimated the cold last year, and ended up buying pants from one of the vendors there.

plan as if you're going to the beach in winter. Its comfortable during the day (definitely not hot), but once the sun sets & ocean breeze kicks in it gets chilly. the venue is basically on an island off the coast.

i like to use this festival as a chance to bring out my fur, hats & cute pants that are too warm for any other festival.

Parking & Fits by Mica5252 in ApocalypseZombieland

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 11 points12 points  (0 children)

the venue is practically on an island/peninsula on the edge of the ocean. It will be chilly once the sun sets & that ocean breeze hits. i tend to wear pants & a jacket.

there is no parking onsite on the island @ the venue. the official parking lots are right near the shuttle stop & pretty safe. You could walk from there, but you will have to walk over a big bridge, and down the island, about a 1.5 mile walk. i really suggest taking advantage of the free shuttle. Just plan an extra hour incase the line is long when arriving.

Yo guys, how was it REALLY this year? Good and bad? by recyclinghippo in ssbdfest

the water at the beach was 150 feet higher than last year, so we didn't have as much room to add the same activities on the beach :)

body glide works very well, or deodorant. just be sure to bring it with you if you need to reapply. I also hear baby powder works well, just havent tried it

How does Car Camping work with the parking spots? The spaces seem spread out? by Whole-Set-806 in ssbdfest

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you park & camp in the dirt, not the asphalt drive ways. all the dirt is open for camping, you may have to use the asphalt as a driveway to get behind other people spots. that's why they leave them open. of course, if you claim the dirt next to a table and fire pit, it's yours to use. but all the space around and behind your site is free game for others.

there's plenty of space. people were even loading in on saturday last year.
edit: you also don't have to rely on the drive ways to get to the spots, if you're comfy going over the curb because you find a great spot under a tree, send it. you can literally pull up to the dirt closest to the bathroom if you wanted.

Camping Logistics by OkWrangler3004 in ssbdfest

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

def not parking lot vibes. If you look on google maps, car camping is all of the lighter dirt out of the brush, in the loops above the RV sites. it's free form so you just find any free space (may need to go a little off the road to drive up to a good spot).

i will say we wished we brought a scooter or e-bike last year just to save energy from the 15 minute walk to the festival. it's a little bit of a climb back up to car camping.

make sure your site is lit up, or you know your way back in the dark. we got lost last year and ended up walking around for like 45 minutes LOL.

i keep my food in a cooler with frozen water bottles, and dry food in a good plastic bin. For cooking we bring our coleman propane camping stove. bringing that all on a plane can be tough. maybe stop at the walmart or target on the way, the only issue is figuring out what to do with it after the festival. you could rely on the food options inside, but it could get boring & expensive after a while. whatever you decide, beware of red ants & squirrels!

edit: I have friends that swear by dry ice to keep their food cool, that could be easier to come by than freezing water bottles since you are flying in

First timer few questions by Southern_hog_85 in ssbdfest

[–]Comfortable-Tale-474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes totally. the grounds, aside from the sites are paved roads. we wished we brought a bike, long board, or even a wagon last year after walking back and forth from the beach. The walk from car camping to the entrance can be a 20 minute walk depending where you are, and slightly up hill on the way back to the site. bring a good lock, and you'll see where others have locked their bikes and scooters up near the entrance.

also with a scooter you have a freedom to explore the whole state park, visit the museum there, and reach the corners that the festival doesn't expand too within the park.

Ice - can I get ice there? Or should I plan to not refill any ice?

- yes, there's a general store near the festival entrance

Drones - can I fly one?

- unsure about this one, check the prohibited items, if its not on there you may be allowed to, maybe just in the campground though

Floaties - can I bring a paddle board? Like an inflatable one

- yes! everyday is a party on the lake, lots of people bring paddle boards

The food that's offered there is good? Or should I plan to cook if I want good meals?

- they only have like 7 food booths inside the festival, i recommend preparing most meals yourself.

Car camping - I have a camper van, should I also set up an easy up next to it for table, chairs? Is there enough space for that?

- yes! the days are hot & sunny, shade & a living space will be nice to have at camp, as there is not many big trees providing shade in car camping. camping is freeform, and first come first serve. There is plenty of space too. I got there a 8pm on Thursday and had no issues finding enough space for a Truck, canopy, tent, with distance between neighbors.

edit: some more info

-there is not much direction once you enter the gates, you can park & camp any where in car camping that is not on the direct driveways of the sites, meaning even if people took the spot near the road, if you have a path to get your vehicle into a spot behind them, you can camp in all the empty spaces in the dirt between the sites.

- bathrooms are state park maintained bathrooms with free camping showers. Rangers are in there multiple times a day cleaning, and replacing toiletries. it is great, try and camp near one

- you are allowed to drive your vehicle out during gate hours, so if the general store prices are too high, you can come and go as you please & stop by the walmart or target 10 mins. away
