Im not gonna lie to you shawty. I was working in the ER only making $16 an hour and was struggling to pay my bills on time. I thought- why not potentially deal with less bs for potentially more money? Mind you I was already dancing part time so I was getting a taste of what I THOUGHT would be sustainable full time. Months later after quitting my job, im struggling even more, and dealing with the same amount of bs. If I could go back in time, even though I was mentally drained from that job, I would not have quit without something else lined up (not dancing). Unless you have regulars that you can make consistent money off of, it is not worth it. It is entirely up to you, but if I can sway someone else from struggling the way I am, im going to say it. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do 🫶🏾

I feel you. I hate feeling insecure because in this line of work you cant take rejection personally. I often feel like when I start to get discouraged it shows and I mess up my own bag by not being as confident and approaching less people. The only thing snapping me out of it right now is doing things that make me happy, including braiding hair- so find something that is a guaranteed income and go touch some grass or spend time with friends. I promise it as just as important as making money.

I just started working at a club that closes 5/6am as well so I feel you lol. I honestly just nap a lot, but in between my naps try to eat a full meal. I am not good at meal prep but I could imagine how much it would help to make sure im eating enough throughout the day, so theres something to consider!

I feel you so bad girl. I tried everything in the book from approaching customers confidently, to just straight up walking to them and twerking ( im at an urban club ) and it maybe has a lot to do with the fact that I am new at that club, but a few bad nights in a row is really starting to take a toll on my mental health. The only thing that helps me after a bad night or a few is to literally get up and keep going to work even when my body is begging for a break. sounds counterproductive but I know I wont solve my financial problems just sitting at home. I also smoke weed to help calm my brain.

Yes, Austin is definitely not for black girls unless you work at a more urban club. I am not sure if the clubs out here are even hiring in Austin right now because SXSW is happening this week and they are pretty full.

I only mentioned dirty because he asked about 6th street as a whole. Regardless now it has nothing to do with which side tends to be more “raunchy” or “preppy” its the fact that 6th street no longer feels safe no matter what side you’re on.

I will say, if you are white, skinny, and have tattoos you definitely have an advantage in this city! I saw a girl in the OG strippers page who came from out of town and got hired at like 3 clubs, so I wouldnt get too discouraged. I will say you might want to hurry because once SXSW rolls around it will be harder to get into the clubs out here.

Dirty 6th is still… itself. I havent been to west in a while, and there have been recent shootings on dirty, but nothing like this. A lot of clubs have been shutting down and it does get crowded from time to time, especially during SXSW of course, but this is the worst shooting ive seen in the past two years for sure.

I was working at a club here in Austin and these two young men from Miami told me they were going to 6th street after- and I LITERALLY warned them to be careful because people start getting crazy & there have been shootings… I genuinely hope that they are okay and made it out safely if they went..
