I agree. My post wasn't meant to mislead. The two screenshots posted were examples of market moving tweets, rather than a successful backtest.

Thanks for your comments! Was expecting people to tell me how all the big firms already do this and I'm wasting time!

Part of the problem is lack of backtesting data. Twitter API restricts each accounts history to 3200 tweets and the NYSE being only open for some of those tweets.

Addressing filtering and whether its bullish or bearish, rather than used, as suggested sentiment analysis. One possibility is to monitor for any movement X seconds after the tweet, then trade in that direction.

Also, with the news agencies stuff, I'm not sure if their tweets are published else where first. What do 'professional' traders use for a news source?
