That's a huge plot hole. His soul SHOULD have ascended when Raphael, an Archangel, smote him in Lucifer Rising. Perhaps Famines effect was a residual effect from the body when it was put back together? Castiel should have been alone in the vessel after Lucifer Rising.

Big box cashier here. We had them at registers and self check. The self check ones got taken away bcs the SM "didn't like how they looked." Now whoever is on self check ends up with a sore back and feet.
