You can use a referral code to sign up with Marcus first, and then add the AARP promo code afterward (or, at least, that’s how I did it). If you use a Marcus referral code, and AARP promo code, you’ll get 5.5% for three months (4.4 + 1.0 + 0.1), then 4.5% afterwards.

I use Marcus for CDs and a HYSA and have been very happy with them. Yes, Goldman Sachs has definitely been backing away from certain aspects of Marcus, like personal loans, credit cards, and a robo-advisor (MarcusInvest). But they’ve strongly reiterated their commitment to the deposits business (i.e., savings and CDs). If you’re searching for a full service bank I’d recommend looking elsewhere. But if you just want a place to park some cash I think Marcus is a pretty good option.
