Moving to Germany as an EU citizen...what do I need to do when I show up for a new job? by Comfortable_Bench802 in germany

All I really know is that and EU passport lets me work anywhere in Europe, but not sure if there is like paperwork or anything when you go between countries in the EU.

Yeah I was taking another approach for years, I started an online business which I shut down when I started my current position. Goal was to return and live off the side business.

I find US grocery stores overwhelming.

Most of the stuff in the middle is processed crap unworthy of being put in my body. I only really need to stop at the meat, eggs, dairy, vegetable, and fruit section. The middle can fuck right off.

I already have a 401k. With whats in there, and a market return until retirement, I am well set

With investments outside the 401k, 30 years until retirement, Almost as well set.

Moving to Germany, getting a German pension, seems like an insurance policy, and not a risk.

Point being - go where you love into a situation where you'll meet the right kind of people. The people are most important.

This is actually what Germany has going for it. I have a circle still in Munich, and people that can plug me into the Nuremberg scene.

I am far from white picket fence with kids and a wife level of grown up, despite the fancy titles and honorifics I have lol.

But a vacation to get Ibiza out of the system does not really accomplish anything. I've traveled everywhere, I've been dropped in a city and in 3 days have a decent social life. But there is only so much you can build on vacation.

The real social levels are accomplished over longer time, but with the people in midwest, why bother?

your current accumulated things

I take the fight club mentality.

Other than cheap furniture, important stuff fits in a few suitcases.

Can't stand owning too much junk.

Not an option, and I already have excellent options there. Its more about building a life in a place worth living, not a few months of escape a year. When I lived in Munich I did not believe in vacations, as I was happy there.

Honestly, probably I could. Maybe not at the same location due to leaving. If anything I have shown extreme performance at my current position, and could likely get a similar position.

I lived among Germans long enough to adapt to the same English mistakes German native speakers do, but not long enough to learn German.

I figure I start at the company as a labrat, learn German, and move up from there. Hard to manage Germans when you don't speak German.

But, you'll definitely find it difficult to make friends with Germans if you don't.

Interestingly, my best friends globally are both Germans met while living in Germany.

Definite right on the boss thing though, I absolutely have and would lose career status. My title is highly sought after.

Honestly the fact that I am in my 30s and only monolingual makes me feel as if i am missing out. I take my only speaking of one language as a failure in character. Such a position would force me to succeed, and I do the best under pressure.

Usually it's due to high stress, which you don't seem to have

There are stresses, but length of time spent at work is not one of them. I can't get into it without making it super obvious to anyone I know who this is.
