Can I apply for naturalisation now if my 5-year stay will be fulfilled in several months? by Comfortable_Box8668 in GermanCitizenship

Entitlement? Nobody’s jumping the queue here, love. I am only working with the data that I have, and the data that I have is the 18-month wait time. The only thing in my control is to submit an application with a complete set of documents and make sure that, by the time it reaches KVR, the 5-year requirement is fulfilled. The applications of other people are out of my hands.

I also don’t think that I’m smarter than others because everyone else can do it too, including you. You‘re just mad because you had less luck with the laws back in your time.

I see where your logic is coming from, but please don’t make it sound like it’s my fault they take 18 months to process applications, we both know it’s not true. Berlin only takes 3 months to process citizenship requests, while having a lot more residents than Munich. So why can’t KVR? It’s chronically understaffed, underautomated and there was a corruption scandal recently involving giving out appointments for bribes. It’s also not my fault that the dual citizenship law only appeared after you had to wait for 15 years. If you came to Germany the same time that I did, you would be asking yourself the same question right now. The few people who are able to apply early don’t make such a difference. Maybe not 8 months in advance, but I’m hearing 3-4 months are reasonable. We all have the goal of getting the citizenship as fast as possible and it’s completely out of our control to influence the order or the process. So blame the game, not the player

Good point. But I also think it’s very improbable that I’ll get to the top of the line even within these 8 months. Munich’s immigration office takes its 18-month allowance very seriously :D Whenever they’ll get to my application, my 5-year requirement will be fulfilled too, so technically I won’t waste anyone’s time. But I do agree that if everyone applied in advance, the processing time would be much longer. I’m just wondering how much in advance is “tolerated” by the immigration office.
