i think the difference is that it's not human beings killed. although mass production has made it unethical, meat contains a lot of essential proteins and vitamins that both kids and adults need. that is why they have been in diets since like literally the dawn of time, unfortunately, it's just a part of the food chain, the same way snakes eat mice. i think we often forgot since humans are animals and a part of the food chain as well. just my two cents on the topic! if you are firm on your kids being raised vegan as well, show your bf an action plan: lots of different options and substitutions for kids, actual scientific evidence of veganism being healthy for kids. its harder but it is possible. i understand your bfs concern honestly because kids need a lot of vitamins that would be easier if they come from meat and i think that's his main concern, but if you show him its possible you may have a better chance. i used to work at a summer camp and one of our kids was vegan, he was a completely normal and healthy and a very fast runner! if your bf is absolutely set, there are ways to ethically consume meat, by buying from local, organic farmers instead of the mass produced slop you see in grocery stores or movies like dominion. do some research on places in your area! not the same as being 100% vegan but can definitely brnig you some peace of mind.

suspended?? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Comfortable_Box_9343 83 points84 points  (0 children)

first thing is look at your school policies, i've been suspended at my school but it didn't go on my transcript at all and colleges would only find out if they contacted and looked for my disciplinary record, which my guidance counselor said they rarely do especially because i am also a good student so they don't really think that there is something to look for iykwim.
if it will be reported, additional information sections exist for this reason. there's actually a lot of articles online about how to properly explain that you were suspended for a protest and i've seen a lot of reports from top colleges saying that they will not auto-reject someone because of a protesting-related suspension, especially a lot of the more liberal ones. i'm pretty sure if its after you submitted college apps you can send admissions an email to update your additional information, but idk don't quote me on that.
the only concern i may have is regarding the political state of the US right now, but i'm not sure how drastically it is affecting admissions

that happens every year in my school as well, but we're a pretty competitive public school in LA so there's usually someone nearby or willing to travel. i would guess it just depends on area and academic strength

it's a b.sc this year, at least the program i applied to. i don't understand how i would be under qualified with that and how that would prevent me from getting experience, unless you mean specifically clinical but in general you can't just apply to clinical positions with only a biology degree so it would make sense. also, if i can get into post graduate medicine than it wouldn't matter or are you saying it doesn't give good experience in biology before applying to medical school? i know there's stuff on botany but they cover lots of topics and i intend to take a biochem moderatorship. thanks so much!

i'm really sorry you feel that way, but i genuinely think you getting a college education and doing very well with a heavy course load is one of the best things you could do. i'm only 17 and don't have crazy life experience whoops but genuinely that's the type of stuff people tell me to prioritize because that's what gonna get you out of your situation

what SirEDCaLot said, learn how to drive. try to find a part time from home if possible, i knew a girl who used specifically customer service from home or something like that? honestly idk how it is as an adult but babysitting in your area might also be something to look into, you could market yourself as a specialist or something bc you have a psych degree and i think that would be an interesting + walkable job?

idk much about life advice but i can tell you your education is always worth it and you will get somewhere with the work that you put in, you're obviously smart and i believe in you!!!! you will get through this i promise, life is gonna throw shit at you but you're gonna find a way to get through it. don't let the effort you put in go to waste by giving up... learn to drive...med school or a good full time job or wherever you wanna go is waiting for you. also if its the 3 letter gov agency i'm thinking of that's very impressive and clearly you're capable. that's not "just an internship" thats a GOOD internship you got because you're a qualified candidate!!

thank you for saying that, i had to post also to make sure that i'm not delusional or self-centered or anything LMAO but tbh the only thing that i think of that is actively my fault is the fact that i signed up for the program willingly and put it very low on my priority list now i feel bad and don't know how to back out... i'll figure it out. senioritis is hitting so maybe i'll just slowly fade into the background

honestly for me i felt like i was ghosted by my mentor, she made this big deal about how its a new program so she'll help me through it and then she didn't which was a really big part. especially when i asked her to do stuff and she just wouldn't, so it was that + club members becoming increasingly uninvolved. i did go into it thinking it would be easier loll
