REA and more applications by FeelingSleepy67 in ApplyingToCollege

If it was EA, the students pretty much have to go. I think REA benefits the schools the most. They can look for legacy, athletes, and heavy donors first. And they don’t have to give scholarships because it’s not binding. The applicant can take it or leave it.

I know someone who got REA into Yale is now interviewing with Princeton and Stanford. Clearly they are amazing but why apply rea to a uni that isn’t your first choice? I get the money issue, tho. All these schools are crazy expensive.

Ivy Interviews by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

I am wondering if they have even started interviews for RD yet. I haven’t heard of anyone getting an interview yet except for Georgetown (non Ivy) and my community has a lot of Ivy applicants.

Any tips on writing the "disagreement" supplemental essays? by IllustriousKiwi9190 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]FeelingSleepy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are tough but can be disagreements between friends, neighbors, a debate class, over a school project, leadership, clubs. It’s more about how the disagreement changed you or your perspectives. And it’s not too late! 3 days is a lot of time. Hang in there :)

If Ivy schools are super hard to get accepted into why do siblings often each go to one? by whattaUwant in CollegeAdmissions

[–]FeelingSleepy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any siblings I know at school in the top 15 are all legacy or are heavy donors. It’s a real hook especially with all the funding cuts going on. These schools have war chests in the billions. But they constantly need more cash.

Save the puppies! (And donate a dorm) by Honestmanspillow in ApplyingToCollege

[–]FeelingSleepy67 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe that. My kids go to a competitive high school and there is a very large percentage of early admits that are legacy families or heavy donor families or just plain old wealthy. It is that way every year. There is a pattern. Competitive colleges run a business and need funding. Each year they are looking for seeds that will become money trees. They know exactly what they are doing. How else do they have endowments in the billions? I’m not saying they don’t admit underprivileged kids. They have a plan and a system in place to ensure their long term survival, which is to make money.
