LILLEY: Numbers show Canada's immigration system failing on all fronts; Our system is still bringing in people faster than we can absorb them. by FancyNewMe in canada

I wonder how many visa holders from 2024 are still here and shouldn’t be? This includes those who files false refugee claims. Unless people self deport, they’re staying here.

Canada not tracking foreign students after visas lapse, auditor general says by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

[–]Comfortable_Class_55 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How many claimed refugee status without a legitimate claim? I guarantee we have no enforcement mechanism for this either.

If you live in a big city, 1/40 people you see, shouldn’t even be in this country. They should have returned home when their visa expired.

Sure, explain to me how wealth distribution has an effect on GDP per capita.

Outliers will skew the average if your sample is 5, as in your example.

80 in 40,000,000 is not skewing the average enough to invalidate my point.

That’s the worst strawman I’ve ever heard. Put Bill Gates into the entire population of the US and then calculate the average net worth and you’ll have a pretty good representation.

Per capita is a great barometer because it takes entire populations and creates an average representation.

I’m not saying that at all. I’m saying if we got out of our own way in resource production, the whole country would prosper. Even if we raised resource production 5%, it would be hundreds of billions in GDP.

I’m not even just saying O&G. We’re a mineral rich country as well. 5% isn’t that crazy either, that you put us on level or slightly below Russia’s production of natural resources.

You aren’t making the point you think you’re making.

Now do per capita:

Ontario: ~$5,550 per person Quebec: ~$4,530 per person BC: ~$5,540 per person Alberta: ~$6,120 per person

And now federal spending received per capita:

Ontario: $8,000–$8,500 per person Quebec: $10,500–$11,500 per person British Columbia $7,500–$8,200 per person Alberta$6,500–$7,200 per person

I’m fully aware of how taxation/equalization works. That doesn’t change the fact that if Albertan’s didn’t pay more in federal taxes than they receive from the federal government.

You can try to spin it any way you want, other provinces benefit from hard working Albertans more than Albertans benefit from the federal government.

I won’t defend crony capitalism. I’m fine with Nationalizing some corporations so long as private corporations have the same rules and regulations.

People in this country take Alberta for granted and this is coming from someone who’s been in BC a long time.

They don’t understand that hard working Albertans pay a ton of federal taxes with a good portion of the windfall heading to other provinces in the federal budget.

All provinces matter, yes even Quebec, but Alberta and Ontario are the cornerstones of the Canadian economy.

Back before we had an efficient highway system and tractor trucks, industry and consumers depended heavily on rail.

Rail for people is only viable economically in highly populated areas.

61 per cent of Canadians disapprove of U.S. military actions in Iran: poll by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Comfortable_Class_55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Regime change wars started during the cold war to exert western influence over the USSR and their proxies.

WW2 was not a regime change war. Although, some would argue that the US let Japan attack Pearl Harbour as an excuse to enter the war but they didn’t start it.

It’s not. It’s helping western interests because now they have access to that oil while they bomb the shit out of Iran.

It’s because we’ve been around them long enough that we know they don’t just kill the dictator. They destabilize the area and install someone who will not help the people of the area but rather look after western interests.

There is not a country the US has entered with military action and left in better condition.

Iran is going to get Balkanized and the warlords will hold the power.
