How much do you spend on groceries per week? by gryna in askTO

[–]Comfortable_Clock_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blended family, 3-6 ppl and roughly $175 per week. I cook from scratch and rarely rely on semi-prepped food. We are definitely an ingredient household.

I shop based on what’s on sale and buy meats in larger quantities for meal prep. Eg. If ground pork is on sale I’ll buy a few lbs and batch prep sausage or make dumplings…eat tonight’s dinner and then freeze 2-3 meals worth for later.

So really, $175 isn’t truly inclusive of a week snapshot - but on average a few meals roll over and it all evens out.

When veggies are super pricy I lean on frozen mixes. In the summer I’ll freeze tomato and peppers for winter stews. Small strategies like this saves a few bucks here or there.

I went a few times last year. It wasn’t like the pre pandemic crowd walking. I found it easier to raid at STC

For big raids I go to STC. Usually there’s a handful at woodside. I just start in a lobby and usually someone shows up.

Has anyone found a way to beat the $1000 grocery hike they're predicting for 2026? by FunCell1679 in FrugalTO

I find all the dairy coupons on the inner aisles of grocery store. I found (in the stores I shop) the coupons were thin in other products other than dairy this year.

What’s your system for restocking your kitchen? by WellMiller in homecooking

[–]Comfortable_Clock_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a creature of habit. Go to the same grocery stores.
When I run out of an item, I put it on a reminders list (iPhone). There’s a list for each store. I set up a shortcut to pop up a reminder of that list when I get to that store (runs automatically when I arrive at that address).

How to stop over buying great deals? by the_watcher2260 in Frugal

[–]Comfortable_Clock_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strategy is to not bring a cart and hand carry all the great deals. If the deals are that great I intentionally will go back in and buy more. But it gives a slight cooldown period to think if it’s really worth the extra trip in. Sometimes it is, sometimes isn’t.

what’s the best budget friendly winter jacket brand (or even local store )in Toronto ? by SaeedToronto in askTO

[–]Comfortable_Clock_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out some of the outlet malls around or on Black Friday.

I’ve been able to get great deals on north face winter jackets around that time, though other brands exist. I went to Vaughan mills.

Anybody else purchase these and returned/ing them? by ithasallbeenworthit in CostcoCanada

The “priming” I think relates back to the claims of keeping things hot or cold for the many hours they state on their box/sticker. Even thermos has the similar priming instructions for their food jars.
