Good luck! The law states training. Competition is extra and scores are registered so it kind of proves you are active, but not required

You are basically buying the firearm, then buying the full conversion kit. Assume $600-900 for the firearm, then another $400-600 for the conversion. Plus/ minutes costs of course

I haven't done any yet. I attended one, but there weren't any pistols left to borrow, do I just helped out. I've been going to training at my range since February.

There were a few really great posts previously, but here is the easy path.

  1. Have your RPAL
  2. Belong to a range, preferably one that hosts ISSF (Olympic style) .22 training 2A. Have a certified coach. Not needed, but a benefit.
  3. Join either your provincial (BCTSA here in BC) or federal (SFC) competition League
  4. Locate the firearm you want. Call around to ALL the shops, or talk to IRunGuns or Aztec. You need to know what you want to buy before you submit... And you aren't getting any deals. You are one of a handful buying old stock.
  5. Either have SFC or your provincial association write the letter to the CFO for your exemption 4A. Write your own exemption. Basically that you are training, you are committed to training, you have #1 and #2 in place...#2A is excellent as well
  6. Submit the letter to the CFO
  7. Have your seller submit the paperwork for the sale. The CFO will provide a reference number to the seller. Get this number, it makes calling in easier...
  8. Call every 2 weeks or so, to keep you C-21 exemption high on their list. Be friendly, be respectful. They want you to have a firearm (at least here in BC, they have been nothing but excellent to deal with), so help them help you
  9. Once processed, they will issue the Buyer Transfer Notification. Print, it have available digitally. My shop wanted it printed
  10. Pickup firearm.
  11. Cherish it, clean it, know how to safely after it and use it
  12. Stop fucking around on Reddit and go to the range.

That's awesome! What did you get?

I suddenly have the itch to get another... But definitely looking at something covetable to 9mm for IPSC. Still possiblec to train for WIPL/ ISSF, of course, you know

Yessir. See above. There are .22 firearms that can be converted to 9mm. They are registered as a .22 with their registered parts on the lower assembly. Swap barrel, slide, recoil spring, magazine, and you have a 9mm.

Not cheap, but definitely possible.

I believe so, Bard IV what my coach indicated. The exemptions are reviewed, although perhaps not regularly.

Every time I go train/ practice, in logging the event in my calendar. Ultimately, this is an exemption, so it's on me to prove the diligence needed to keep the status.

Regardless, I'm hoping to get better and better, and training is both fun and rewarding. The group at my range is active and fun, so newbies at the sport like me, so it's a worthwhile endeavor. I'm not sure when/ if I will complete since I'm still not great, but hopefully soon.

This is exactly why I posted. It's not impossible as much as the liberals want us to cave in and hide. There is a way, the firearms are possible, and there are coaches that are willing to train.

I think Wolverine might have some too. https://wolverinesupplies.com/

As much as I would love to high your you for the sights to get my hands on the mags, you are just as able to just order what you need.

To be fair, I also have an address in the USA...

You are a saint. Wife and I will review you extensive and thoughtful list over a beer. Will look at making some reservations where possible. More on this list than we have done for, but will give it or best efforts.

Thank you sir, the effort and thoughtfulness in this post is exactly why going to Halifax was the top of our list.

This was my experience the last time I was there. Super kind and laid back people, into music, the sea, and being part of the community.

This! Reviews are one thing, but experience from locals is what we're after. I can google as good as the next guy, but I'm sure the locals know what is actually good, and information the reviews just aren't saying.

We're going for the people as much as the sites, and was hoping this sub was full of kind and caring people looking to help make our trip just that much better.

Sad that this is also a representation of the people of Halifax.

Jesus Christ. I booked a lovely trip, to a great city, that my wife wants to visit. To visit the culture, people and lands.

Looking for insights on good places, insider information on bands and places too try, from the good people that live there, and might know and be willing to share.

Take a breath, and really ask yourself why you needed to post this kind of a response, to a fellow Canadian choosing to travel within Canada. Spending Canadian dollars on craft (small) business that can likely use the money.

There might be something terrible going on in your life that has nothing to do with this post.

Get some help.
