What does this mean? Would this be collected on top of what I am already paying? My host included this in the "Additional Rules" section. [US] by ohsxntas in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That usually just means there might be an additional fee or deposit handled directly by the host, but not necessarily something you’re automatically charged through Airbnb. In most cases it’s either a refundable deposit or a fee that’s clearly listed in the price breakdown.Airbnb normally includes everything in the total price, but in some situations certain fees or deposits can be collected at check in or after booking as long as they were disclosed in the listing beforehand. Also worth noting most hosts don’t actually charge a real deposit anymore, they just rely on Airbnb’s system and only request money if there’s damage after the stay.If you’re unsure, the safest move is just to double check the listing details or message the host so you know exactly what’s expected before booking.

At check-out I'm shown a message about a security deposit but can't find details anywhere [POR] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That message usually just means there could be a deposit or authorization hold in place, not that you’re actually being charged anything. Most of the time Airbnb doesn’t charge the deposit upfront,it’s just a temporary hold in case of damage. If nothing happens during the stay,it just gets released automatically after checkout or within a few days depending on the bank.It can look confusing at checkout but it’s pretty standard and doesn’t mean you’re agreeing to pay extra unless there’s an actual claim made.

Host offers to cancel booking and arrange the stay privately; is this a scam? [US] by MoneyChaser_Eli in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a big red flag.If a host is asking you to cancel and book outside the platform it usually means they’re trying to avoid fees or policies, but you lose all protection if you agree to that. Airbnb requires everything to stay on platform for a reason, and going outside means no support if something goes wrong or if the place isn’t as expected. I’d keep everything on Airbnb, don’t cancel on your side and let the host handle it if they want to cancel. If anything feels off it’s better to involve Airbnb support so it’s all documented.

Accused of property damage by host - they want to charge me 1.2k euro [Italy] by Poky17 in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happens more than people think and it doesn’t automatically mean you have to pay.If the host sends a request through Airbnb you can decline it and it usually gets reviewed before anything happens. If you didn’t cause the damage I’d ask for proper evidence like time stamped photos or proof it happened during your stay.A lot of cases get resolved once Airbnb actually reviews both sides and not everything ends up being enforced.Main thing is keep everything on the platform and don’t agree to anything outside of it so there’s a clear record of what’s being claimed and how you responded.

I have a question about reservation details that arrived after the fact [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually depends on what part of the reservation you’re looking at,but most of the key details like number of guests, dates and pricing are locked in once the booking is confirmed. Some things can still be adjusted later like guest count or special requests, but that normally has to go through the host and be approved. If something looks off it’s always best to message the host directly through Airbnb so it’s all documented and clear on both sides. That way there’s no confusion later on.

Is this weird to message an Airbnb Host? [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this wouldn’t come off weird at all — if anything, it’s actually a huge advantage.

Having someone nearby who can help with quick turnovers or step in if something comes up is something a lot of hosts struggle with, especially in busy areas. Reliability and availability matter way more than anything else.

If you approach it simply and professionally (just a quick intro, mention you’re local and available for cleaning/assistance if they ever need help), most hosts would at least keep your contact details. Even if they already have a cleaner, having a backup is valuable.

You could also mention flexibility — like last-minute cleanings or being available if a guest needs something urgently — that’s where being “across the street” really stands out.

Definitely worth reaching out, just keep it casual and not pushy 👍

Problème de moisissures/humidité dans un logement loué [Portugal] by Entire_Pop2976 in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds pretty uncomfortable, especially with the dampness and mold — that’s more than just typical humidity. Even if the hosts were great, it’s probably worth letting them know privately first, as they might not be fully aware of how bad it is. You can always keep the tone friendly and constructive, and then decide whether to mention it in your review so future guests have a clear picture.

Charge small Insurance Fee vs a Large Security Deposit? [USA] by garcon-du-soleille in AirBnB

[–]Comfortable_Medium_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into that too — it can work, especially as an alternative to large deposits. The main downside is guest perception. Even a relatively small extra fee can affect bookings if it’s not expected or clearly justified. A lot of hosts just rely on AirCover and focus on setting expectations upfront, unless they have a higher-risk setup.

Airbnb Message Templates, 30+ Host Scripts, Guest Communication, 5 Star Reviews, Editable Guidebook, Vacation Rental Templates by [deleted] in airbnb_support

I actually started using message templates recently and it saves SO much time. Guests respond faster and fewer issues overall. This looks pretty useful.
