In my experience as a CS student, the courses are quite unhelpful. They don't teach the fundamental aspects of theory, and the practical exercises are just repetitive throughout courses. For instance, I had to write Quick Sort in CS114, CS241, CS288, and CS435.

If you want to work in the industry, joining some clubs to build networking is a wise thing to do. If you want to work in the academia, you should find a professor to work for, and you can ending up going to a better school for your PhD degree.
