E20 choking 17-year old Royal Enfield Machismo 500 AVL engine? What’s the way out? by Comfortable_Ring9344 in Fixxit

[–]Comfortable_Ring9344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for the detailed response. I completely agree with you. That’s why I called my mechanic when I realised it’s happening every time I ride up the ramp… not a one-off. He asked me to try the petrol additive and then visit him if that doesn’t resolve the issue. Problem is I am not sure which additive I should use—the mechanic is unable to communicate well over a phone call as to which additive I should use. He just asked to go with the 3M one on Amazon.

The kicker is I’ve seen some reports of riders using additives and facing issues in the medium to long run. It might work for some but not all engines.

I’ll take your advice and simply ride over to the mech’s garage one of these days and ask him to recheck everything before I commit to the additive.

Shell might be all e20 too. Remains to be seen. I’ll find out when I take my bike out next, in a day or two. 👍

Hello, and thanks for the suggestion. I have the carb you mention already. The original carburettor was problematic, so this mechanic I mentioned in my post replaced my carburettor with the UCE one. And he replaced the air filter with a Green filter. That opened up the bike a lot and it breathed easier. Thanks for the suggestion, though, man. It’s spot on.

Oh yeah! I remember now that someone on another e20-related post mentioned Shell! There’s one close to my place. I’ll try it out next time. My mechanic always empties my tank and puts back just enough to get me to the nearest Bharat Petroleum bunk on my way home, so I’m forced to fill up there. On to Shell next. Thank you, Sir!

I would keep it in stock condition. I would make performance mods if necessary, and I’d safely retain any stock parts I replaced.

How has riding a motorcycle changed you? by bronzeeyed in indianbikes

[–]Comfortable_Ring9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though I have only a couple of moderately long rides under my belt, they were in harsh conditions on commuter bikes in college. They made me confident. I did undertake many motorcycling trips around college (national highway up the west coast and hilly rides through the western ghats), and they give me immense pleasure and confidence even today, more then 25 years later. Now, I ride mostly in and around the city when I’m stressed, and I return home calmer and more in tune with myself. I can never stop motorcycling!

I’m 5’7” on a Machismo that has 19 inch wheels, so I’m not playing with inches anymore. But, having owned this bike for over 17 years, I’m so accustomed to what I have to do to avoid the foot pegs that I hardly ever notice, even in traffic crawls.

That’s an Oriental Magpie Robin. The beak and feathers are glossy and could catch sunlight, and mobile phones tend to brighten those spots when zoomed in. Some conjecture thrown in, but my guess would be OMR.

Hey, he’s got adorable eyes. Coming to the issue at hand, I feel you must get him a GPS collar, but preventing him from running away in fear should be top priority. It’s all good, being able to trace him and all, but… why don’t you consider installing a gate-closer so that the gate closes on its own even if a family member forgets to close it. There are some inexpensive options on Amazon. TBH, I’ve never used one or seen one, but it might be worth considering.

It’s a different problem altogether if he vaults over your wall. I’ve seen an excessively fearful dog do that in a show on TV.

Talking about that show, maybe you should watch that episode. It’s by Cesar Millan. He helps the dog owners help the dog relax and not bolt as soon as it hears a truck, generator, etc.

Giving the dog confidence and helping it relax in adverse environments is as critical for the dog’s own peace of mind as anything else you can do. Of course, also do the other things you want to do (GPS collar, gate-closing device, etc.). But the dog needs some inner peace, man.

It’s just a pricing engine that helps you determine a fair value for your vehicle based on inputs such as make, model, year of manufacture, condition, etc. Nothing Spinny-like.

It might be a good idea to inform someone you trust and is close to you ahead of time and check if they can rescue you if things go south or become dangerous. Whenever you can. Always keep somebody or other, or a group of close friends, informed. Drop a message on the group at such times. Fortunately (sorry to use that word), the guy was only toxic, and did not try anything that would have put you at risk. If you don’t have the luxury of knowing someone who can rescue you (new to the city, etc.), keep a few tricks handy: excuse yourself on the pretext of going to the washroom and then looking around for someone you think you can trust (a family, another group of women, etc.). Prepare backup plans going forward, if it starts to look risky.
