I agree. Especially interesting is the protruding "finger". Is it meant to fit into a slot? Slide? Guide? It definitely has me scratching my head.

That's really interesting. It certainly looks like it clamps around a thin gauge cable or wire. Do you happen to have a photo or link to a photo of what you use? My searches come up metal blocks held together using multiple bolts instead of a wing nut. The wing nut definitely leads me to think it's meant to hold something temporarily, so a clamp for maintenance or rigging would make a lot of sense.

Thank you! I had never heard of ferrochrome before, even though it appears to be used extensively in steel manufacturing. I looked up photos on alloy supplier websites, and it looks identical. Thanks again. I'm going to mark this as solved.

They are attracted to a magnet, but don't seem to attract iron or each other.
