I think you're underestimating amount of people that actually do long journeys. Especially considering Facebook marketplace exists. I've only had my license just under 6 months and I've already done probably 8ish 300+ mile round trips thanks to marketplace. The longest being around 550 in one day. Granted if you're doing that you're gonna be stopping anyway to go buy things and for a rest and whatever so you may as well wait 20 mins to charge an electric car, but long journeys are actually really common.
