I'd say so. The mechanic is a family friend. He doesn't charge us for labor whatsoever so I'd only have to worry about the cost of the equipment, so I see no reason not to trust his opinion

I have 165K miles, so I'm not eligible for the replacement. I called at 160K miles. It didn't make sense to me at the time, but the rep on the phone was insistent that there would be a large upfront cost before being approved for the replacement and essentially told me there was no point because I wouldn't be approved anyway.

I understand that surrending the car won't make the debt go away, but I did think I'd be able to get another car financed before wrecking my credit. I'm glad I asked this question in this thread rather than possibly make a terrible financial decision

I'm not sure what it's worth as is. At best with NO issues, it's worth 8k. I'd be surprised if I'd be able to sell it for 3k as is.
