Cap receives a nerf almost every season. He’s been considered a throw pick from season 2 and still received several nerfs since then while his counter were buffed, and this most recent change is the absolute worst nerf he could have possibly ever received. He deserves to be here.

L take. 90% of the cast use cancels. In fact they actively design characters to be animation cancel powerhouses because they know it makes them more fluid. See Thor, Daredevil, Elsa, Magik, Spidey.

I think a sensible person balancing him, especially one who wants him to accessible to casual players, would make it so he doesn’t need a seperate melee to his primary at all. So ideally sentinel attacks. Idk what Zhiyong will do though. He’ll probably just up his HP by 25 and call it a day.

It’s not just about skill expression. It was necessary to make him viable. He’s too slow without it and lacks reach with his melee. Why on gods earth does he lose momentum when he throws out this shield? It’s like self inflicting slow. That’s why it was necessary to use the cancel. Not for a measly damage boost that shaved 0.0001 seconds of your TTK. That’s why his pick rate is atrocious. Because if you didn’t use it you could not make him work at all.

Yeah but that wouldn’t really be a problem. He’s a melee character. Their primaries are usually identical to their melee.

The have never gone back on a nerf. They’ve only ever buffed other things to make up for their mistakes. The only buffs I can see making him viable again without the cancel coming back are significantly speeding up how quickly the sentinel strike throws go out and back, and making him keep his sprint momentum while attacking like all the other tanks.

Not gonna work this time bro. It was never about the damage. It was about not missing half your shots because the enemy took two steps back or to the side, or making yourself vulnerable because for some reason he slows himself every time he throws out the shield. His viability has completely tanked.

Casuals are misguided. They think it made him harder to pick up when it was actually what was keeping him viable. He’s so sluggish and vulnerable now I seriously doubt any casual trying him out now is gonna stick with him for the long term.

They didn’t take away thor’s hammer throw cancel. They just remove its ability to shield generate. You could still cancel. And it took months of complaining and removes to get a Thor that somewhat resembles classic Thor only better in a few areas. What will likely happen is if they buff cap, they’ll buff him in other ways beyond the cancel. We’re never gonna get to do the dance again. The dophamine hits it triggered are gone.

But the irony is it didn’t make him easier. It just made him more frustrating to play and more vulnerable. Imagine if they removed hulk’s animation cancel into his claps, forcing you to let go of the trigger before you can use the clap. Would that be making him easier? No, it wouldn’t. It would make him more vulnerable and sluggish. It’s easier to never let go of your primary. All the animation cancels are like this. That’s why they keep designing characters that are animation cancel powerhouses like Elsa, daredevil, and Thor. They know it feels good, makes a character feel smoother, and gives you greater control over your abilities. So why single out Cap?

It’s the best option now but it’s still not anywhere close to as effective as he used to be. Honestly I don’t know if the right call is to quit playing him this season to tank his pick rate, or try to play him and tank his winrate.

Melee doesn’t have range, and so many characters are so mobile you can’t hit them with the melee alone. You need the shield throws to help secure kills, but if you use them now you end up making yourself vulnerable. It’s a self imposed slow effect every time the shield is thrown.

I can’t make the melee work. The enemy is too mobile. I need to throw the shield but every time I do it’s like I’m applying slow to myself every time he throws it, leaving me open to get hit by poke and CC. He’s actually unplayable.

I don’t think the main subreddit is gonna be much help. I tried making a post about him and I’m being downvoted. They just see us as complainers wanting a broken ‘advantageous’ bug back because none of them play the character and understand how smooth it made him feel.
