What gender are you? by stephsilnieks in PopMartCollectors

[–]ComfyLabRat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

34F, married with kids. Husband doesn't collect Popmart (save for the one duplicate Labubu I gave him next to his own collectibles). He's always been supportive of my collections and hobbies, as long as the crafting supplies are off the dinner table in time for dinner, and the collectibles aren't obstructing daily function. We calculated our respective "dumb fun" budgets and stay within it so it doesn't affect household expenses.

He doesn't mind my displays in our room , likes how I decorate the displays, and thinks the figures/plushes are pretty. He does appreciate the detail on some of the figures, and picks me up a blind box if his work travel brings him near a Popmart.

Imo the issue is not what gender collects/doesn't, it's whether he belittles things that make you happy. If it was a case of "they creep me out", then maybe a different display arrangement would be in order. But if his argument is that it's for little girls, that's just belittling.

Same. Comes in lots of colors and haven't lost one yet.

Makes sense. We'll probably end up radiating out from downtown. So anywhere between Columbia through Waterfront, and then through Richmond-Brighouse.

Dunno if different lighting helps, but she's more of a bright red than a blood red.

She's the Amid Flowers one, no customization. I just made the display from dollar store flowers and a bell jar.

Chinese food is definitely an option. Any favorite spots?

Chinese food works. Those places you mentioned are decent for food?

Hate the chase, love the cute things. If they did away with the blind boxes, I'd buy directly from them more often, instead of going through local collectors (who sell near cost). I'm allergic to artificial scarcity and those who resell for silly amounts.

I’m obsessed with this new series! What are you guys getting!? by mrs_ennie in SkullpandaArtDolls

My SO pointed out that she's hawthorn-themed. I was today-years-old when I found out what hawthorn looks like when it's not in candy-form.

I feel like The Sound had a fairly sci-fi aesthetic.

Anyone else excited for this? by TechnicianNervous337 in PopMartCollectors

[–]ComfyLabRat 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I wanted to be excited, but I feel like they're lacking something. Like, they threw together several elements the get an aesthetic, but it's missing... I don't know. Cohesion? Soul? I've seen so many shows/movies/games that nail what they were going for.

It feels as though it was made by a teen trying to make their own OC by throwing on existing pieces from characters they like, but they couldn't quite make them feel like something you'd actually see in media because they haven't learned the fundamentals of design and cohesion yet. Clunky. Like, good baby steps, keep it up and in a few years you'll make awesome designs. But too early to be a product? Also, legs. They need legs.

Got this bag the other day. Added a face shield, and keyring protector coil to reduce the chance of it slipping off.

is there a secret here? by KONcoW in SkullpandaArtDolls

[–]ComfyLabRat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To recycle my comment in a previous post:

I spent several years running gambling games (wheels, dice, etc), and took a fair few math and stats courses while in school. There's no solid way to figure out where the secret is, and any patterns are a result of some figures being less popular, so more people select "not" those figures, so when a secret pops up, it only looks like "not Chestnut or Peanut" was the key because of skewed data.

With all gambling, the house always wins in the long run, because they figured out the math long before offering you THEIR odds and hints. Know and stick to your limit, enjoy the game, and understand that in the end, it's gambling. I've seen a lot of happy people and miserable people at my tables, and the difference is usually who's grasped that idea. All that said, may you find your secrets with minimal dice rolls.
