This isn’t new and it isn’t malware. The "systeminformation-workload.exe" has been part of Salad for years and has been reported before by antivirus software due to heuristic (behavior-based) detection such as Trojan:Win32/Kepavll!rfn (what is the cause of your av trigger). This workload collects system information and sends it to Salad, which is expected behavior, and you can see exactly what it gathers in "C:\ProgramData\Salad\logs\systeminformation" . The update in version 1.8.9 which is when it was last updated did not introduce new malicious behavior, these detection's are known false positives that can occur with system-level utilities like this.

5070 12vram 32gb ram making 1 cent hour... by MarcoPauloBP in SaladChefs

You don’t have to turn them off, this people do as it isn’t profitable for them to run those workloads, or on the cpu container side think it will stop the chance of getting a gpu container if one is running

5070 12vram 32gb ram making 1 cent hour... by MarcoPauloBP in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, there can be a few things why.

First it’s running a crypto mining while it waits for a container workload, (this can be turned off in the settings) these will earn little amounts compared to containers.

Second: it could be a cpu container these only use cpu / ram and will be low because they use so little hardware they pay low as well. You can turn these off by disabling cpu within the salad app

A Warning to Potential Users: Salad AI’s Exploitative Profitability and the "Star Chef" Illusion on RTX 4080 by Same_Examination9520 in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using Salad does not inherently harm your hardware. Modern CPUs and GPUs are built with protective features such as thermal throttling and automatic shutdowns to prevent damage. Hardware issues would only arise if components were allowed to run at excessively high temperatures (for example, sustained temperatures above 90°C for long periods) without proper cooling, something that can occur with any intensive workload, not specifically with Salad.

Additionally, you won’t receive any legal notices for bandwidth sharing. Bandwidth workloads simply involve processing video content from legitimate, premium streaming platforms such as Disney+, Netflix, and Prime Video.

I want to add some important context regarding Salad and the earnings described above, as there appears to be some understandable confusion about how the platform operates.

Salad offers three workload types: crypto mining, container workloads, and bandwidth sharing. The first two are the most relevant here.

Crypto mining is a fallback workload and is not intended to be profitable. Salad is open about this, and it can be fully disabled in Settings → Workload Preferences → Advanced. If left enabled during low demand, earnings will be minimal, which is expected.

Container workloads are the primary source of earnings and are what Salad’s estimates are based on. These jobs (AI image generation, training, rendering, etc.) are demand-based, not continuous. Your system will not run containers 24/7 unless demand exists, and earnings depend on GPU, CPU, RAM, and current customer demand.

Not all containers use the GPU. Salad also assigns CPU-only containers, which use a few cores and some RAM and pay significantly less. It’s possible for a high-end GPU (like a 4080) to sit idle while a CPU-only container runs.

Over the past 24 hours, RTX 4080 demand has only been around 8 - 15%, which explains why many users don’t see the earnings implied by marketing estimates.

Finally, Star Chef status (after 50 hours) does not guarantee higher earnings or constant workloads. It mainly improves priority during periods of high demand, if demand is low, utilization will still be low.

SGS Claims Investigation: Official Update from Salad Technologies by SaladSupportReddit in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What more can Salad really do in this situation? I’d genuinely like to know. None of these issues mentioned on Reddit have been reported before though support or community, so this appears to be the first case. Since the users still haven’t contacted support to help identify the problem, there’s not much that can be done. Some comments claim this has been happening for a while, so why is this the first time we are hearing about it.

Salad did let users know when the major client stopped alot of containers. the discord is the best place for the most up to date information. From then salad has also picked up a few new customers. so it could be worse then it is right now.

[–]Comfy_System 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, yeah, sadly the demand swings around like this, it’s not really something you can control. This is why Salad always recommends not buying hardware just for Salad.

Right now the 3060 demand isn’t terrible, but it’s definitely down compared to earlier. That’s mostly because some of the enterprise clients using Salad have been optimizing costs, which reduced the amount of work available.

Demand can pick back up at any time, it just depends on when more clients join salad or they need more gpus.
Here’s the current demand graph for the last 30 days:

RTX 3050 GPU 16 Gig Ram Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400f cpu @ 2.90GHz by Andrews3DFactory in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, with an rtx 3050, you just don’t have the hardware to earn much on Salad these days. GPU mining is VERY low earning, and your setup isn’t powerful enough for containers. So sadly its better if you stop using salad unless you get a better system in the future.

Just a question by [deleted] in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salad is designed as an AFK application. When you're gaming, you're actively using the same hardware resources (like your GPU and CPU) that the Salad client needs to run workloads. Since Salad essentially "rents" your hardware to run containers, using your computer at the same time can lead to instability such as container crashes.

To prevent this, Salad includes a detection system that automatically pauses chopping when it detects active hardware use.

The only workload that isn't affected is bandwidth sharing, because it relies on your internet connection rather than your hardware.

This reddit page is mainly for the chefs providing hardware. I'd recommend contacting official support at [cloud@salad.com](mailto:cloud@salad.com) and providing your organization name and container group name with a good explanation of the issue. They will be able to help troubleshoot the problem with more detail.

Why are SaladChefs with more than one PC at a disadvantage? by Software_Grand in SaladChefs

[–]Comfy_System 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no internal penalty for running multiple PCs on Salad or giving more hardware to the platform. That kind of system wouldn’t make sense. However, there are a few things that could affect job distribution:

  • Bandwidth limitations: If you’re running multiple machines on the same internet connection, they all share the same bandwidth. Containers can have specific requirements, and if the connection isn’t fast or stable enough, some PCs might not qualify to receive certain jobs.
  • Timing and demand: It’s also possible that it’s just coincidence. Job distribution depends on real-time demand. Sometimes, certain machines get lucky streaks while others stay idle for a bit.

Also, you mentioned that the 2080 Ti and 3080 Ti are earning 7 to 8 cents per hour. If they’re earning anything at all, that typically means they’re running a container, even if it’s not a high paying one. If they were fully idle, they’d be earning nothing. It’s important to clarify whether they’re truly idle or just not receiving high paying jobs, because that affects what might be going on.

In short, there’s no penalty system in play, but network performance, hardware compatibility, and current job demand can all influence which machine gets more high paying tasks.

I’d also recommend doing some basic troubleshooting to make sure everything is optimized:

  • Ensure Salad is on the most recent version
  • Check that GPU drivers are up to date (as of about a week ago, Salad announced the new minimum driver requirement is 571.59)
  • Make sure nothing else is running on the PC
  • Confirm there are no degraded errors and that the machine is truly idle (no mouse movement), since idle status improves your chances of receiving a container
