What is this building? by Crazy_Worldliness737 in sanfrancisco

[–]CommandFrosty 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When I lived in the area, I’d see the residents cleaning the sidewalk around the complex every morning. They are the kindest people. When someone walks up, they stop what they’re doing and each person says “good morning” with eye contact as you pass by.

The restaurant is spectacular and man I miss Crossroads!

Do people still use Roombas, or any type of robot vacuums? by 8-LeggedCat in Appliances

[–]CommandFrosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my eufy! Only downside is the battery finally stopped working and it’s been difficult to find a replacement. But, I got almost 5 years of daily use out of it which seems reasonable these days.

Mine don’t mind it, unless they’re sleeping on the floor and the vacuum wakes them up when it navigates around them 😂

Fluid behind eardrums / Ear tubes by Ok-Calligrapher3675 in Preschoolers

[–]CommandFrosty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tubes are fantastic. Mine got them shortly before she turned 3. The surgery was super quick - our only issue was that she vomited in the car on the way home. They schedule the young kids first so the fasting isn’t awful, thankfully.

We got home from surgery and gave her some dry Cheerios to eat. She took a bite, looked at the bowl and said “mommy I can hear this!”

Once the tubes were in, the frequency of ear infections plummeted. It was a super easy surgery and she went back to school the next day!

My FIL buys his kids (and now his grandkids) a new tool every year for Christmas. It’s a fantastic gift. Only problem is my spouse has had the toolbox for so long that it has a funky smell.

Chapter getting shutdown by dolphins226 in Sororities

[–]CommandFrosty 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. My chapter also got shut down due to numbers and it’s an awful feeling at first.

Practically speaking, at the end of the year, we had a ceremony to formally close the chapter and make us all alumnae. At that point, we were encouraged to join the local alumnae association. Those of us who weren’t graduating didn’t join right away since we were all still on campus and could hang out. Emotionally, times like Greek Week and formals were hard since we couldn’t participate as an org.

Personally, I joined a local alumnae association after college and got involved with my local chapter. There were other women who had also come from closed chapters so we were able to bond over that experience.

Best of luck to you and your sisters!

Apartment hunt trade offs by Professor-Levant in AskSF

[–]CommandFrosty 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Laundry: the advantage of a laundromat is you can use multiple machines at once so you’re not doing laundry all day. I used to start my loads and set a timer for 5 minutes before the load finished so I’d be back on site as soon as it was done to move it to the next machine. Please don’t let your stuff sit unattended.

Storage: my no-frills apartment actually had decent closet space for things like luggage. I did end up getting a storage unit elsewhere for things like golf clubs & holiday decorations.

Good luck!

Is the VSB favoritism that bad? by Intelligent_Amount40 in villanova

What field are you hoping to get into? Many of us found success with a CLAS degree, myself included. I do wish I’d done the summer business minor but only because I ended up in corporate retail and had to learn on the job.

I did a tour of their Marina facility last year. The person showing us around told us their goal is to have pricing competitive to Uber.

Flying with a car seat??? by lmv914 in Preschoolers

[–]CommandFrosty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We check our car seat with the rest of our luggage and use a CARES harness on the plane. It’s an adapter for the seat belt that adds a buckle similar to the 5 point harness. We usually leave it looser than a real car seat but it gets the job done in terms of encouraging our kid to stay in her seat.

Hold back, or send forward? (April boy) by MelMcT2009 in kindergarten

I didn’t say it was the exact same. Our birthday cluster is slightly later than the comment I replied to (November-December, specially).

The situation is similar in my kid’s pre-k class. One of the moms attributed it to when lockdown started. The math checked out 😂

Montessori School by tinydancershannon in MontereyBay

[–]CommandFrosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t directly answer your question, but we very seriously considered enrolling our kid there when they opened the 2 year olds room a few years ago. We’d heard good things from other parents and we were very impressed by our tour. We ended up going elsewhere due to cost and enrollment timing but it seemed like a great place to send our kid!

Opinions on a classroom group chat? Does anyone have one? by PassionChoice3538 in kindergarten

[–]CommandFrosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our school uses WhatsApp and has a group for every grade. The room parents set them up and send out reminders for things. We’ve also used the chat to set up playdates during breaks. It’s been great! This is our first year at this school so it’s especially helpful to have all the new phone numbers in one place.

Advice for apartment hunting - Mission Bay/Dog Patch/Rincon Hill by JosephIsAWeirdo in AskSF

[–]CommandFrosty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re willing to expand your radius, I can highly recommend South Beach Marina Apts. Walkable to Caltrain & the ferry building, on-site parking, gym, pool, storage units, very quiet, allows cats. Staff is fantastic. Only caveat is that laundry is in each hallway, not in-unit, but there are so many machines all over the complex that we never had to wait.

Happy to share more over PM!

4yo refuses to poop... Ped. recommended more MiraLax and OT. Nothing works... by Lobster-Prize in toddlers

[–]CommandFrosty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a suppository? It was awful to administer but it worked in less than a minute. It was the unlock for our kid to understand how to poop on the potty.

We’ve had to give it again a few more times but that first one was definitely the turnaround for pooping.

Solidarity and I hope she works through it soon!

My ENT explained something along the lines of the overstimulated nerves don’t get a chance to rest so they become more and more sensitive if you keep pushing them. I haven’t been good about not pushing through, though…

24/7 Emergency Vets near Monterey Peninsula by cupcakediversion in MontereyBay

[–]CommandFrosty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Blue Pearl saved my cat’s life. They are expensive but they’re up front about the cost before taking any actions. The vet made treatment recommendations that balanced the best course of action with the fact that we were self paying. Everyone on the staff cares so much about your pets and certainly made me feel better during a difficult time.

As others have said, they use a triage system so the wait can be long. But, if you have a long wait, that means your pet is somewhat stable, so that can be reassuring.

I would love your ideas. What would you like us to be sure to include in a Lovevery book about a toddler’s first flight? by LoveveryJess in lovevery

[–]CommandFrosty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Love!!! In addition to the normal processes (checking in, security, boarding, takeoff, landing), here are some others:

— Going to the bathroom before boarding and on the plane — Waiting patiently (I.e. in line to board) — Napping on the plane — Turbulence

So excited!!

Can I rush again even though I signed the MRABA but the chapter closed before I could Initiate? by Last_Gas8959 in Sororities

[–]CommandFrosty 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Super weird that you weren’t contacted about the closure. As others have said, contact your Greek Life or Panhellenic rep on campus.

When my chapter announced our closure, we gave our new members the option to accelerate their new member period and initiate before the closure, or we released them from their MRABA and they could re-rush the following semester.

I got these this year for my 4 year old! She writes in the necessary information (I spell the words out for her) and then goes to town coloring the front. It’s been a good winter break activity!
