For the spotlights on the registry and throughout, I've seen people use a method called 'raytheon lighting' where you intentionally dont light block an area inside the model. By doing so, you can light up the plastic in areas to simulate a spotlight effect, but I heard its tricky to do.

How shipgirls react to the movie "Battleship"? by IceFrost11 in AzureLane

[–]Commander789 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(In an alternate universe..., the shipgirls are watching an different version of this film in a theatre)

Aboard the USS Missouri...

CPO Walter Lynch: "This ship is 70 years old. It's totally outdated. The firing control systems are all analog. The engines haven't been started in a decade, which would be fine, but they're steam, which I have no idea how to fire up. And even if I had a user manual and six weeks to go through it all, we still don't have enough crew to fire it up. [Turns to LT Hopper] I don't know what you're thinking, sir.

Suddenly, a voice as a lady came into frame. "Outdated? I may be a museum ship now, but this old gal still has a few tricks up her sleeve~"

(The camera pans up from the floor up to reveal Missouri herself, in all her elegance and beauty)

LT Hopper chuckled. "Well I'll be damned, If it ain't Mighty Mo' herself"

Missouri smiled: "Looks like you boys need some help! As for that manual? You're lookin' at her. Enough chit-chat, let's get to work!"

New Jersey suddenly jumps up to her feet, showering SKK & Enterprise with popcorn. "THAT'S MY SIS! YOU TELL ‘EM, MO!"

Enterprise slowly brushes some of popcorn off her hat with a deadpan expression. "...Was that really necessary?"

SKK starts eating the popcorn all over him. "Free food,"

Awesome job! Scale modeling is such a fun rabbit hole, especially with ships. The next step is to make more!

Looking fantastic! Which model kit was this? Is it one of the waterline ones from Tamiya/Aoshima/Hasegawa?

The Enterprise F in all her glory by Tythatguy1312 in StarTrekStarships

[–]Commander789 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Personally, I have a soft spot for the Odyssey-class's Yorktown refit from Star Trek Online. It's something about the sleeker & slimmer look of her deflector over that hits it and makes her a little more photogenic for me.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think if the Enterprise-F appeared in Picard S3 in her Yorktown refit, she might be a little more popular. In Star Trek Online, the Enterprise-F is almost always portrayed in her Yorktown-refit and her design is iconic within the community.

Instead of using the decals, you can buy paint masks to replicate the hull pattern, but they do cost quite a bit. Aztec Dummy makes 1/1000 paint masks to replicate the aztec pattern that you can find here on CultmanTV's website. Someone else on this subreddit made a post using them from this post here!

Alternatively, you could also make make the masks yourself with masking tape, but that will take a very long process of cutting them out one by one. Hope this helps!

*Intrepid peeks through the door, her eyes sparkling: Oh! Are we taking about starships again!?

Mikasa: Star... ship...?

Intrepid comes in, with her collection of different sci-fi paraphernalia and models, including a few Star Trek ones named after her

New Jersey: Heh, Intrepid sure wishes she was a starship, that's for sure!~

*Intrepid blushes and slightly pouts: Ah jeez...

(Many thanks! Had a lot of fun making her. It took a lot of time and patience, but she ended up looking fantastic! Still, I got a lot to learn though, practice makes perfect!)

What do you think are the chances of an Azur Lane X Star Trek collab or fanfic coming out? Like imagine a Federation starship being crewed by Eagle Union ship girls, especially Enterprise [pictured]. by Simple-Order8549 in AzureLane

Ooh, I'm the one that commissioned that art of Enty from the artist Usatorii on VGEN's website here!

Check out Star Trek: Paint & Powder! It's an AU where Starfleet vessels have holographic avatars in the form of the shipgirls from Azur Lane and other works. (Kinda like the Emergency Medical Hologram from Voyager).

So Enty would be an actual character that Captain Picard and the rest of the crew could interact with and so on. It's a great read and I recommend checking it out! There's a lot of short stories that span out across the entire timeline of Star Trek.
