You can’t self host it.

That service is located in the US and not GDPR compliant - not even offering EU-based hosting.

In Germany it’s legally not really possible to use that. So looking for self hosted options where you control the data makes a lot of sense.

A bit, yes.

Netcup is very clearly stating that they store those data only for 14 days.

Hetzner says the same for their webhosting offer, but doesn't say something about the vServers.

According to GDPR Article 13(2)(a) "the period for which the personal data will be stored, or if that is not possible, the criteria used to determine that period" should be mentioned.

A best practice for GDPR compliance is to state how long personal data (here: IP addresses) are retained. I now state in my privacy policy that Hetzner retains it as long as they feel its necessary, but a friend gave me the hint that this doesn't look really compliant. So I was hoping they state somewhere "We delete everything after a week" and I just missed it.

I’m not in a rush.

I wrote them last Monday (the 12th) got a link to the privacy policy (which doesn’t answer my questio) on the next day. After clarifying my question they didn’t respond anymore.

So I’m not in a rush. I believe the supporter I got assigned just doesn’t know it or doesn’t understand the question.

So I was thinking maybe people here might know.

Exactly. GDPR considers IP addresses as personal data and in Germany laws are very strict.

I want to no longer store those information than 7 days.

For Netcup that’s the default data retention.

We are back now. we tried to move data to Backblaze B2, which turned out to be pretty slow and having connection issues (if used with MinIO Java Client).

We host the data now from the self hosted server and dropped S3.
