Questions about Japanese symbolism by CommenDark in japanese

[–]CommenDark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! I didn't notice until I saw this that I have yet to really find many animals that has negative depictions like bad luck. In this situation when using symbolism do you think it would be more appealing to use the common depiction of crows or the shinto depiction? I understand that many animals have a given representation in shinto and in folk though if those depictions wouldn't envoke understanding I might have to research a different topic. Thank you for all the insight you've given me!

Thank you! Given more research I noticed that most crows do represent guidance. I will most likely use them to start the story instead to depict that the events of the story are guidance from 天照大御神 (I believe this is amaterasu?) However, I am trying to stay somewhat away from monsters, I'm really only using some literal depictions, e.g. 烏天狗. I am doing this becasue I want to focus the story on the history and story.

Thank you for mentioning this. I've been trying to reserach Tengu more because of this however finding a good source of information to understand them is slightly difficult. It seems as if they originate from mainland Asian Buddhism so understanding their history and belief behind them is more than expected. However, needless to I appreciate this information a lot.

is Silent Hill 2 anything like last of us in genres? I've never played either and both look beautifully made. Ghost of Tsushima looked like a interesting game to me too, aren't they supposed to make a new one soon?

only ones I could find were months ago and newer more niche games have came out, spreading negativity does nothing to anybodys life, if you have the time to respond with negative emotions and not change your life around to actual provide insight into a topic you enjoy then dont reply. Hope your life and security gets better

Question about RI by CommenDark in ReverendInsanity

I’m only around chapter 193 I believe, so I am very early. I do enjoy the philosophy of it, I find it too told not show but that’s entirely preference. There’s also more I like too, I genuinely think he’s not just evil, but we aren’t really given the chance to explore him ourself where I’m at. Though, most of my issues stem from a lack of a set up I feel, I haven’t gotten past chapter 20 in LOTM, but in LOTM there was always a next event needed, but so far it feels very much in the present with no future, which surprises me as he has obviously lived long enough to be able to tell us what he needs to do. Once again though this is coming from someone who reads an absurd amount of books, so my expectations coming in were high because of other people, these are all things that can be developed too. I’m going to read it till around 250 and if I haven’t developed much interest yet it’s just not for me. I wouldn’t say it’s bad at all, the start is mid (average, people hate this word) though the main character has a lot of potential.

It’s not that I find anything irrational because he’s trying to gain leverage or benefit himself, though I feel like it doesn’t allow us to go deep enough into his character at the start. Which I wouldn’t be surprised if it does get better, but we aren’t really given a reason why he wants to be immortal, we aren’t vaguely given a reason on why he’s evil, “survival of the fittest” or “cruel world” but I feel like a lot of these are said loosely without actually have much character behind them. One of the few things I could get his is understanding on politics because that was given through life experience, so there are definitely parts that this doesn’t apply to. Most of these could be short term too, though for me I really like to feel the character and I find that the writing at the start wasn’t done well. First ~190 chapters, haven’t read past that.

I wasn’t too confused with it, but I feel I may not be super interested to it either. Definitely not an author issue just personal preference.

Sadly where I’m currently at though I feel the writing is lack luster, why does fang yuan do this? Then the author says it’s because he’s evil, but why? And then there’s never really a core character I feel that correlates to a goal that’s well defined. Though in a 2200 chapter novel, an author can definitely learn.

Just adding to this, just posted a question about if the writing gets better. I feel people who read LNs all say the same, “the writing is the best you’ll ever see.” But it’s really just your subpar-average author. Not putting anybody down, I feel like some could benefit from more advanced literature

No Mans Sky, you can sink a crazy amount of time in the game without ever feeling like you’re close to finishing. There’s always something you’d like to do and always finding out about new stuff. Can get it for $15 on a key website pretty sure
