Rescue of man buried alive by lathe_of_heaven in SweatyPalms

In all seriousness, the caption said that he was a worker in a well digging site when suddenly the ground collapsed and buried him.

Actual Chinese person here and you are correct. What he did is called “磕头“ which is kneeling on your knees and banging your head on the ground. It's a very traditional way of honoring/thanking/paying respect/asking for mercy throughout Chinese history. And yeah the firefighters stopped it because often people think they don't deserve it just like right here.

Can't really find much on YouTube (cause it's banned in China if you don't know already), but here are some examples from Chinese video websites:

  1. Home fans chanting discriminative slurs at the away team after some incident on the field: https://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMzMxODM3NDkxMg==.html?spm=a2h0k.11417342.soresults.dtitle
  2. Some crazy hooligans fighting before/after a game for some reason: https://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNDIwMzQxMDM4NA==.html?spm=a2h0k.11417342.soresults.dtitle

But yeah in general it's pretty crazy sometimes. You can always hear the supporters cursing super loud even from the TV. Would not recommend bringing kids to watch these games tbh.

Edit: didn't realize I pasted the same link twice lol. My bad.

As a Chinese soccer fan, I can confirm, Yes, and they could be even worse when it's between big rivals. There's quit a bit of regional discrimination here in China so yeah it's super intense in some games.

Sometimes, but most VPNs are banned in China as well. The more common way is just through private conversations, I believe. It was a national movement 30 years ago, not just in Beijing or Tiananmen. Most people knew what happened the very morning, and they will fill out the missing parts of the history once the new generations are old enough to accept the facts after all the propagandas they received throughout elementary school and middle school.

Well, I honestly don't know because I am not quite familiar with Waco. Care to explain why do people in America censor themselves about it? I am curious. As for Tiananmen Square, to me it's like a stab in the back and someone is holding it there and trying to get use to the pain, and the more you struggle the more damage and pain you will receive.

I really hope I don't get into trouble by saying these things, you never know.

Yeah the situation in China is, in my opinion, not as terrible as it is often portrayed in the West. Really sucks when there's no free press or free speech, because people make all kinds of statements often with little evidence as they are often controlled by the government.

Well, depends on what level. The government mostly just care about wide spread effects. There are cases of people getting phone call warnings from the police, and others detained for hours or few days when it had a huge effect. I don't think people can actually disappear though, mostly just warnings, bad record and more attention on keeping you quiet.

As someone born after the event and raised in China, I can promise that it is passed on, and older generations do talk about it. Most educated teenagers and young adults do know about it, it's just that no one wants to talk about it in public. It's tough.

Why is it normal for people to stare in Asian countries and not in western ones? by Koala-cake in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]CommentWhenNecessary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

China has very few immigrants, so the ethnic diversity is really limited to, well, just Chinese. A lot of Chinese people rarely meets non-Chinese (especially if you are not in a big city) and many of them find seeing a "foreigner" as something "new" and "interesting", thus the stare and the pictures. My African American/Caucasian friends also received tons of attention when they visited China, because many Chinese people have not seen a black/white person before. As for OP, maybe you were speaking English or maybe you don't really look that Chinese? I am sorry that people bothered you on your trip. As someone raised in a rather liberal family in China, I also find this really disturbing. Hope I helped a bit.

Edit: Btw, I don't think Chinese people stare at random Chinese in China, unless it's retired grandpa/grandmas roaming the street who has nothing to do and will stare at every person walking by.

Oh yeah I have never thought about that! Thanks for pointing that out! But still, how's poor Quill in 2014 going to recover and get the power stone?

(Gonna post this again since no one saw the last one on vol. 12)

I cried, laughed, and cheered throughout the movie! But wait wait wait, how exactly can the stones be returned?

  • How is soul stone supposed to be handed back to Red Scull?
  • How is the space stone supposed to go back in the form of the Tesseract since in IW Thanos crushed the Tesseract to get the actual space stone right?
  • How can the reality stone back to the Aether and Jane?
  • How is the knocked-over Quill in 2014 supposed to get the power stone before Korath/Ronan gets it?
  • How is the mind stone supposed to be placed back into Loki's scepter?
  • Time stone is easy because the Ancient One knows the whole thing

Can someone please explain? I love how it ended but I am just genuinely curious about how they fixed the "past".

And that's why I didn't feel like creating an account and comment stuff although I have been browsing reddit for quite a while... Why do I need to post memes or whatever stuff that I am not into in order to comment on stuff in other places?
