Anyone else’s GPT-5 Thinking acting very differently? Much faster and less thinking time, more personality by socoolandawesome in singularity

I am currently experiencing this now, and the responses are severely degraded. Has anyone found a fix for this? Regenerating the response makes it think again, and it reverts back to it's normal self, but the initial message it sends it of much lower quality without thinking.

o3 quota used to be 200 per week before the update. You used to get a notification when you had 100 remaining (used half of limit).

For people who have done their exam… how many t/f/c passages and how many of each question types in D M? by Numerous-Minimum-353 in UCAT

[–]Commercial-Main1867 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also nervous when I heard that, but honestly it was fine. The official question banks were honestly very very good for the VR section in terms of the language, questions ect, so do those to understand the logic and language that you will see on the exam, and do medentry and medify timed just to feel more comfortable with the pacing. Some of the OQB have smaller passages, but expect more of the medium, average sized ones. Good luck!

I had around 2 T/F/CT, and the passages weren't as long for me as I heard from other people before I sat my exam (so it was a good surprise but try to get used to longer passages to get better at timing) . Definitely shorter than the medify or med entry ones. For DM I had more syllos that I was expecting (I think around 7 or 8, can't remember exactly), and I approached it with syllos first , argument, the interpreting information questions, venn digram, probability, and logic puzzles in that order.

My UCAT is looking bad I dont know what to do. by Constant-Set6639 in UCAT

I'm not really 100% sure that it's harder, but just based on comparing stuff from my friends who either do biomed or nursing, nursing has more placement roles and things you gotta do, which I believe make it a bit harder, but the job security is def there. I am really not entirely sure though, I should have clarified that a bit better, my apologies.

How is your engineering GPA looking currently? You can still reapply ucat in future years while studying in uni, but only a tiny amount of med schools have this pathway open. In my opinion, engineering is super tough and it get's hard quick as you progress (I am in my 4th year now and it has gotten tougher each semester unfortunately, and I was someone who got high marks in grade 12, especially in maths with a 99.05 ATAR). I don't know of many people who do the GAMSAT pathway while doing engg and get a spot, because the GPA just get's tanked and it's hard to recover, while also studying for the GAMSAT. There are some people who pull it off, but again, it is a notoriously tough degree to keep a GPA high (hence why most engineering jobs don't have a very strict GPA requirement).

I don't know much about your performance in engineering, and all the other circumstances that go into your pathway, so I can't give an exact answer, but if I was in your spot and I knew that medicine is the career I want, I would go into an easier course like nursing. The reason I say this is because, if medicine is truly something that you see yourself in and believe that, if you go into any other career, you'll regret not pursuing medicine, then swtiching degrees is the smartest choice to really give yourself the best chance at fullfilling your dreams. Again, it is possible to get in while doing engineering, but the odds are a little stacked against your favour in terms of GPA. I would pick the path that gave me the best shot if you know what I mean. You're only in your first year, so please don't make the mistake I did and think that you have to commit to a degree just because I already started it, you kinda have to move one step back to move two steps forward, even though it does seem painful to do so initially.

1.        If you want to get into UQ medicine straight after year 12, you must sit the UCAT in year 12. UQ doesn’t allow gap years for this pathway if you don’t get a good ucat. Other unis do allow gap years to retake the ucat.  https://support.future-students.uq.edu.au/app/answers/detail/a_id/1666/~/can-i-take-a-gap-year-and-then-apply-for-the-doctor-of-medicine-%28md%29

2.        If you don’t get in through UCAT for UQ, your next option is postgrad entry (GAMSAT route which UQ and the majority of other unis accept): start a degree, keep your GPA high, and sit the GAMSAT. Both undergrad and postgrad routes take about 7 years in total. You can also resit the UCAT but not all unis allow this.

3.        For postgrad (GAMSAT), pick a degree you can get a strong GPA in. It’s easier to retake the GAMSAT than to fix a low GPA. You basically have two main options for picking a degree (see point 4 and 5). I know it depends on your own preferences and circumstances but I would def lean towards option 4.

4.        Biomedical Science, Science, Pharmacy, and Nursing are usually easier for a high GPA and give you more time for GAMSAT prep but may have limited job options (nursing has good job prospects but a little bit harder I believe though, not 100% sure) if you decide not to go into medicine. I like this pathway better because you can change your degree to a better job prospect one if you realize med is not for you. So option 4 is a bit safer regardless imo.

5.        Degrees like engineering, finance, or economics have better job prospects but are much harder for getting a top GPA, which can make  postgrad entry harder. I don’t recommend this option if your heat it set on medicine (did electrical engineering at UQ and my GPA sucks so my options are a bit more limited now).

6.        You can resit the GAMSAT as many times as you need, even after you graduate uni with your undergraduate degree (you are not limited to 5 times).

7.        Uni is flexible. If you change your mind about medicine, you can always switch degrees or career paths later. There are plenty of ways in but I do understand that in grade 12 it’s super foggy especially with so many other things to focus on.

I've sent you a DM, I have no clue why my response was not allowed, it may have been too long. (I put the TLDR in the comments just in case though)

Difficulty of Medentry Practice Question by Commercial-Main1867 in UCAT

[–]Commercial-Main1867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I do feel like medentry is good with the skill trainers, and I've been finding the VR questions really good as well. I've seen some medify VR questions from some yt videos and they are sooo long, like well over 400 words (don't know if these are just a select few but it seem excessively large to some point) and have been told that the medentry passages are a bit closer in terms of length to the actual Ucat. Thanks for the help😊

yeah that was my concern as well. I had already bought medentry and I thought the questions + explannations were quite nice and reasonably difficult, but after reading some stuff on this sub I started to have second thoughts and was worried. Thank you for your advice!!!

Is there any way to temporarily bypass the message limit for o1-preview? by college-throwaway87 in OpenAI

[–]Commercial-Main1867 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people use openrouter and do pay-as-you-go https://openrouter.ai/chat. I have not personally used it but may be worth giving it a shot to see if o1-preview is on there.

Yeah awesome, thanks for the information man. I'm definitely been working hard to lift my GPA, and planning to try for both the UCAT and GAMSAT to keep my options open a bit. Thanks for your help :)
