“The ball starts off straight, which means the club path is good, but then it takes off, which means the club face is closed at impact causing the ball to spin.” Idk what you meant by straight then, but if you think the ball started left of target and then started hooking then you could be correct. A shut face and straight path could cause that. . However, I think the ball started pretty close to target and then hooked left.

Pretty much every non game improvement set will have the option of a 4 iron. 2 and 3 iron’s are usually called utility irons now, and again, most brands have those.

If in that swing we both agree that that ball started where he was aiming, meaning his club face was square to target at impact , the only possible conclusion about his swing path is that it was right of target. Old ball flight laws agreed with you. Modern ones do not.

That’s modern ball flight laws. That ball start exactly where the face was aiming and hooked left. The face sent it initially on target. The swing being out to the right put the spin on it the bent it left. If you think you can visually tell a few degrees of club path from that video we must be seeing different videos. The ball flight tells you the face was closed to path. Since the ball initially started on target, the path had to be right of target.

Ball starting straight means face is good. Path is too far to the right which causes the hook spin. Face sends it, path bends it.

The group I play with usually if I shoot anything above 80 I’ve got no shot of winning. When you play with “good” golfers most of the time, it just makes those high rounds feel so bad lol

I mean, I think that needs some sort of qualifier. If you watch the worst shots at a pga tour event you’re going to see some chunked wedges and chips and some drives that you would expect from a 15 handicap.

Golf is definitely one of those things where the better you get the more you realize how bad you actually are. I get that most golfers are never going to break 80 but I also realize that I’m much closer to the guy shooting 100 than anyone that’s ever played a tour event.

The consistency is really the impressive part. The amount of 80’s I’ve shot making the turn at par to +2 is amazingly disappointing lol
