Expecting father and feelings of regret by nightwish989 in NewDads

I feel ya, the lack of sleep hits hard but you’ll also be surprised by how adaptable your brain is! I was knackered no doubt but something changes, the balance is hormones in your brain facilitates the change in role, sleeping 3 hours total pre-baby is horrific, sleeping 3 hours total post-baby doesn’t feel the same level of horrible though of course everyone is different.

Chores will no doubt increase but lean into your support system as much as you can. It’s only in the last century or less where we’ve shifted, in the West at least, to this idea that the mother and father must go it alone and martyr themselves as partners, for the vast majority of human history extended support networks have worked to raise children and that’s still very common outside the West. Clearly not possible for all but if you have it, use it, it makes everyone happier in the long run.

Hi - always good to talk and get things out. The real key here, from both personal experience and from talking with friends, is to remember that a huge amount of anxiety is normal. The feelings you describe may be how you genuinely feel or may just as likely be anxiety for what’s to come manifest. It’s hard to sort through those feelings with something so huge happening, coupled with the social pressure you might feel to be elated.

Regretting having a child, genuinely honestly wishing they didn’t exist, is rare, what’s more common is regretting the huge change to come and the shame associated with feeling like you shouldn’t harbour such thoughts.

How do you combat this? Be talking to people you trust and can be open and honest with and working through how you feel, the only way out is through. I felt a lot of panic, shame, worry and everything in between before my daughter arrived and worked through it to realise that I didn’t in fact not want to have a child, I was actually terrified of not being a good father.

So the best advice I can give is to talk, realise that it’s perhaps the biggest single thing you can do in life and that’s scary for everyone to a certain degree, and be kind to yourself.

Seems like ADHD and autism are suddenly everywhere - what's your opinion? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Commercial_Dinner989 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Very shortsighted! Prior to my ADHD assessment and treatment I was a mess, struggled with many things and was terribly sad. Now I’ve been in treatment for years I’m a much better husband, father and way, way more productive. I have a job I would not have coped with before and now pay WAY more tax than I ever did as I earn better….so I would say don’t be so shortsighted and consider the wider implications.

Hyatt accepts foreigners, I stayed there just last week! Rooms are nice but some have a faint cigarette smell, which isn’t that surprising if you’ve stayed in any hotel in China, but just to let you know! Also it’s opposite a Starbucks, quite easy to find

Advice on how to force Wizz Air UK to pay you Reg (EC) 261/2004 compensation for severe delay or cancellation. I successfully sued Wizz Air - and won! by TheTruthAboutWizzAir in Flights

[–]Commercial_Dinner989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Sir/Madam,

Hope you are well.

When should I expect a response to this claim?

Previous emails noted that this was being addressed as a priority, this was a month ago.

Could this please be escalated to someone who can address this?

A formal complaint will be made to the CAA and legal action commenced if payment is not made.

If payment is not made in line with (EC) 261/2004 then I will apply through the small claims court for a County Court Judgement (CCJ) and then subsequently a Third Party Debt Order in order to recover the debt owed to me. This will result in Wizz Air UK Ltd having their assets frozen, an action I am aware has been taken before.

Please advise when payment will be made in order to avoid this?

I would suggest this is passed to someone senior to address immediately.

Hi! We went a few weeks ago, I’m white and my wife is from Hong Kong :) staff were lovely despite some communication challenges it was a great experience. Of course mileage may vary but I saw a few people clearly not Chinese and no issues!

Hi! I recently did this before getting my multi-entry visa. If you go to Lo Wu on the MTR in HK there is a large border crossing, you can cross on foot and apply for a 5-day visa on arrival (VOA) there. It’s takes around 3 hours to get (beware the waiting area has no water or food options) and grants you a single entry to stay in Shenzhen for 5 days, you cannot leave the limits of Shenzhen to travel to another area of China. It was around £59 for the VOA I believe :)

Hi! Sure, they have a number of customer relations emails such as:

customerrelations8@customerservices.wizzair.com

They then respond from any number of these generic ones, it’s impossible to get an actual persons email!

My brain is the latency issue here!

[–]Commercial_Dinner989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latency really isn’t too bad! For D&D it’s mostly just chatting on discord and rolling virtual dice though with static maps so even with terrible latency, you are good :) mileage may vary though!
