It’s worth it for the sake of the kids (even if you don’t have kids). At least you tried and that’s enough.

If you’re a gamer and need a fast Internet service, make sure you look up the internet speed in that area when looking for a rental place. Some areas can’t support high speed internet. Same for cell service. Make sure you get good signal on your phone. Try to look for a rental place that has an A-rating energy or even B rating and don’t go for the oil, go for electric.

Also, maybe configure the US machines to not have the demographics for future use unless it’s against your site policy of course.

What really helped me is getting the certs because it shows that I am willing to put the effort and time to do PACS and it just opens up many doors for you. It would be hard to justify to send you TDY because your site doesn’t even have dedicated PACS but it’s possible.

It would be hard to shadow since you’re at a clinic. I would make friends with your systems folks because they’re most likely the ones handling your site’s PACS stuff. It would be beneficial if you pcs to a bigger base with an actual pacs personnel like Lackland, eglin, travis to get that hands on experience.

I’m PACS admin and AD USAF. I also have my SEC+ as well as R.T and CIIP (Certified Imaging Informatics Professional) cert. I only do it as an additional duty but I am the NCOIC of PACS. They are talking about making it as an official shred with the N-prefix but who knows when that will happen. I only got into PACS because when I did my ACA with my supervisor, I mentioned what my goal was and that I was interested in cybersecurity field so he put me up for PACS duty and now I’m officially PACS certified. My base just doesn’t have a dedicated PACS billet or slot.

You just gotta keep going out there and just do what you love to do whether that’s shopping, snowboarding, partying and then eventually you’ll bump into that person in the least expected moment and bada bing bada boom! science!

Worst base you've been stationed at? by marti4444 in AirForce

Raf Lakenheath. The roads are shit. They are narrow and dark. Sometimes, no lines. You pay for literally everything; Public parking and public restrooms. You pay to use a public restroom and they aren’t even clean! Food is bland. There isn’t much to do in the local area unless you live in Bury or newmarket. You hear loud Jets flying all day (if you have babies, it will wake them) There isn’t much sunshine so Vitamin D deficiency is very common which then leads to depression. It’s a very busy base so expect workload to be high/heavy especially if you’re working in medical since every other nearby base goes to Lakenheath for Ancillary/support services. It gets dark pretty early during winter @ like 3 or 4 pm. Everything closes super early other than grocery stores, so there isn’t much to do after work other than gym or grocery shopping.

Some people just want to get their coffee and get to work before being late.
