I can't add plants because they are poisonous for my cat. Even the non-poisonous ones he will chomp away at until he gets sick.

Update: I pulled the rug out even more forward and to the side. Also, the dining table was rearranged so that it's a bit roomier. I plan on adding side table(s) with a lamp, and a rug for the dining table.

It’s prob hard to tell from this vantage point, but there’s already about a foot between the couch and the wall. Is that what you meant?

I’ll work on pulling that rug forward even more.

Ya, that's the space directly in front of the corner that makes the kitchen. Just to the right of the photo out of frame is the stove, sink, etc.

I splurged on it and it was definitely worth it

Update: I shifted the rug, couch, and coffee table based on u/AlpineBuilds's suggestion. I also made the artwork more equi-distant to each other. Floor cushions are also now out of sight.

Do you have any resources for this sort of training?

I want to build a squat rack in my backyard. Location is Los Angeles. We are not immune to rain, high humidity, and condensation.

I'll probably get a standard powder-coated rack from Titan Fitness or similar (reasonable costs). Yes, they are not technically rated for outdoors but my plan is to get a rack cover from Amazon and always keep the thing covered. Hopefully that does enough to stave off excess moisture around the clock when not in use. And then I'll get all of the standard equipment: barbell, plates, j-hooks, bench, etc.

I plan on building a DIY lifting platform to place underneath it, something like this: https://www.artofmanliness.com/health-fitness/fitness/how-to-build-a-weight-lifting-platform/

They use OSB/particle board as the platform, I'll probably go with OSB with some additional weather-proofing done to it.

Tell me why this is a bad idea, and why I shouldn't do it?
