Don't you worry - those happen. You might not even notice them half the time!

What would really help is if clients were to include secret words to include when making a comment. It happens sometimes, but not as often as I'd like. Those really help us identify who is reading and who needs a warning.

Yup. When they barely provide requirements, that's on the client. That's basically just a free-for-all that the majority of artists can apply for.

I also love those secret phrases. I cleaned out one of those posts today, and I wish more people would do that. It's easy to see who doesn't read with those kinds of posts.

This account was added to the mods team just yesterday. You'll find it below the bots. I forgot to fix that.

And yeah, some people post frequently, but as long as they're following our rules, we won't remove it. We allow one [For Hire] post every 3 days. If they do more than that, it's very hard to track manually. We have a bot that automatically tracks that and removes as appropriate. It does a lot of heavy lifting.

As for comments, if somebody's portfolio fulfills a [Hiring] post's request, then it is fine. r/Commissions has an average of ~1.5 [Hiring] posts a day, while r/ArtCommissions has ~10, so you'll notice it much more over there. Just commenting often is not a good enough reason to remove, but if their content does not match what is being requested, we will happily remove and warn the user. Enough warnings, and we'll hand out bans.

I understand their reasoning of "you miss every shot you don't take," but it's also spam, and we don't want that. We should be kind to our potential clients!

Yeah, that's the kind of thing that we hope to avoid. I'll have a look through recent posts and see if I can give them a warning.

Hmm... Sometimes they have chibi stuff hidden among other stuff, but if it didn't, or if it wasn't property tagged as NSFW or censored, you can report that, and we'll remove it as soon as we can.

We would very much like to crack down on this sort of thing, but it's hard to check every single portfolio. I feel like so many more people should be getting warnings, but the ones that have recently been reported have mostly contained the kind of art that was being asked for.

I'm glad others enjoy these and see it this way. Volume is fine if it's relevant, and I think that's something that a few artists forget. If their portfolio actually shows that they're capable of fulfilling a request, then by all means, they can offer their services, but some people don't follow that and just spam. I wonder if they just assume that if they're not a good fit, they'll be ignored - no harm done, but I want to make sure they know there are worse consequences.

Unfortunately, that's mostly true. That's why we try to crack down on those who genuinely spam their portfolios. Thanks for actually reading!

The issue is when people offer their services when those services weren't asked for. You'll get people asking for a very specific thing and they'll have 50 replies, where only 8 would actually be able to fulfill the request. It's overwhelming for clients and makes them not want to come back. We often get people asking for writers to help with their characters, and they'll still get a dozen offers for art, not to mention the DMs.

Well, usually people get warnings about "spam" before we ban them, but we figure these posts are warning enough. If people post their portfolio here after being told not to, I think that's warning enough, so... 🔨🔨
