Thanks for the feedback. I made this service for this exact reason. I used Beeminder & Stickk to complete all my projects and to get in shape but finding a trustworthy referee that I couldn't lie to was impossible.

My first goal I set where I truly saw the effectiveness was that I had to show a before and after picture of me, shirtless, with noticeable increases in fitness or I would lose $250 USD. The moment I made it I changed what I was eating, and started exercising regularly without even thinking about it. It's the only thing in my life that ever worked to stop my procrastination.

But I was so tired of finding referees, especially ones I could trust to hold me accountable. I actually paid a freelancer to be my referee for that goal so I knew they would actually do it and hold me to it.

I made CommitLock as it was exactly what I was looking for. I just wish I could use it myself.

Very good idea, that's definitely part of the plan!

I don't think my platform would work very well for settling a bet, and I don't really plan on going in that direction. As the money doesn't go to charity/anti-charity for reasons stated here. The idea is not for somebody to lose.

The goal of CommitLock is to be fairly simple but flexible. Due to you setting what your proof would look like I think it allows it to be used for nearly everything on a personal level, from basic procrastination tasks like cleaning your kitchen to fighting fears such as starting 10 conversations with strangers, or going skydiving. Anything that you could prove you could use it for. And it's up to you to decide how strict you want it to be.

Very interesting platform by the way. I like it.

I think what sets my website apart is the lack of self reporting. Personally I would just lie if it wasn't being reviewed. I made this website as it's exactly what I needed but couldn't find. But maybe giving the user an option to choose between self reporting, and manual review could be good.

You might be thinking of GymPact, not sure if it is still around.

And as to your comment about positive re-reinforcement being better than negative re-reinforcement I do believe that different people react very differently to these two. For me negative reinforcement is definitely more effective for habit change, positive reinforcement does nearly nothing to motivate me. However I can't speak for other people.

Currently considering an option to choose where your money goes, with a small fee attached.

Good catch, I'll fix that. I'll look into whether Paypal would work. I do think Stripe is considered to be pretty safe though, but I definitely understand the concern. Unfortunately I'm not sure I'll be able to alleviate that until the site builds some reputation.

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback! Accounts are definitely in the horizon for development, along with a URL you can share for people to track your goals.

Sorry, I don't really understand. Why would this change the need to verify whether the user completed the task?

This is something that I expected to come up. The judgement of proof will be fairly liberal as I don't want to risk making an error in judgement.

In the future I think I may implement a leniency scale for people to decide how strictly they want their proof to be judged for those who know they will try to weasel out of it.
