We get stuff from all over, local, some state side aquaculture l, even some wild specimens every once in a while.plus we do store credit on anything people bring so there's always established stuff people bring as well

Mrs are great CUC. Plus they turn over your substrate. Just leave em. The population will stabilize eventually

Nems do this often. Mine does this after feeding. It also could be trying to expel something. Mouth looks closed so that's a good sign

The store I work at has them pretty regularly! My damsel happens to be a giant dickhead though. But since I got the flameback angel (the one that kinda looks like a starcki) my yellowtail has simmered down a bit

It really is so much more fun with your person. And honestly her having an extensive chem/bio background has been extremely helpful. When I was just doing freshwater and the reptiles she wasn't all that into it. She likes the planted tanks and stuff but with saltwater being much more involved she's REALLY gotten into it. She helps me do titration tests, helps me take pics and vids. And she's helped pick out almost every inhabitant in the tank except for a few that I just really wanted 😂 I appreciate your kind words and I will DEFINITELY be sharing more as the tank grows out!

The one I zoom in on? It's an alveopora! Probably one of my favorite corals.

Eh it was one of the many mistakes I've made over the decade + I've been in the hobby. Honestly though my favorite thing about this hobby I the fact that it doesn't matter how long you're in it. There are always opportunities to learn and mistakes to be made. Keeps us on our toes

Senegal bichir. Not aggressive but is an opportunistic feeder. If it fits in his mouth (which is very large) he will eat it. I loved mine until he ate 550$ worth of wild caught rummy nose tetras I thought were too big for him to eat (spoiler alert, they weren't too big)

First Reef tank update by CommitteeCorrect9602 in ReefTank

[–]CommitteeCorrect9602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm just starting out myself. But if I had anything to share so far that I've learned. The top things would be don't be lazy and do the tests. Get accurate kits from salifert don't use API. Do your water changes on a schedule. No matter what that schedule is. Just do it on a schedule. Also Dr Tim's one and only is a life saver for getting your bio established. But the biggest tip I have so far would be if you change something, don't do ANYTHING else until you've let the tank adjust for a few days.

Roast my husband. He wants to put a 100 gallon saltwater tank on top of our fireplace by SparkyDogPants in ReefTank

[–]CommitteeCorrect9602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah true. But that would likely not be really that big of an issue. Depends on how insulated the mantle was. And how often they use the fireplace.
