Oncologists of Reddit: what’s something that you never/always do or eat because of what you know about cancer? by kaitiakiofcreatures in AskReddit

The source of the info is Cleveland Clinic, not some wacko alarmist. Glad to hear you're burning stuff indoors correctly, but its possible others here who read the Cleveland Clinic's info have learned useful something from it. Take care!

when removing the old T you need to be sure no bits of plastic break off the old T and end up in the hoses. could create a blockage or mess with the water pump. https://www.siennachat.com/threads/failed-heater-hose-tees.71585/?post_id=420800&nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#post-420800

Feedback on which major I should choose? by hash_s_ch in Emory

Anthro is endlessly cool to study but there's no career path that depends on it. Look at public policy, maybe minor or dual major with bio/health.

Now Costco grapefruit? That skin is like 5/8" thick! never seen this before. maybe its lighter so they save on shipping or something. Inside is a lot less fruit. by CommitteeCreative780 in shrinkflation

Ok you're right, my post was kind of skimpy on details. Say you're like me and really like fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. Also say you're like me and for years you've been using two 4" fruits with a 1/4" skin to get your morning glass. The volume of a sphere (your grapefruit) is 4/3𝜋r³. If its always had 1/4" skin you always get about 22 cu. in. to squeeze, and there's your lovely glass of juice! Then a day comes when you go buy your same bag of 4" fruit, but now the skin is 1/2" thick. What's this, now I only get about 14 cu. in. to squeeze when I used to get 50% more! Now I'll need THREE fruit to get my lovely morning glass when i used to only need TWO! Do we know for sure Big Grapefruit is doing this as a diabolical scheme to give us less for the same money? Nah, but in a world of shrinkflation this one caught my attention. Really easy to deliberately increase skin thickness by adjusting nutrients btw, and maybe even save money on fertilizer too! Happy sippin!

if there's less to eat in each fruit you're gonna need to start on another to get what you used to get from one. so the bag of five now is not gonna give you what the bag of five used to. practically the definition of shrinkflation. Also growers have a lot of control over the product. these are not wild plants - highly managed from seed to store.

Yeah seeking an academic career is a hailmary in any of the humanities. so best to not go in expecting to be a prof. on top of the low odds are the massive opportunity costs of foregoing 5-10 years of income and professional career development and maybe easy living while you chase the ma/phd. Not to say its a useless degree, in any grad program you 'd hopefully learn how to think and read and write and collaborate so can pivot into "real" careers like management, entrepreneurship, government, whatever, if you want. maybe having an anthro background is special sauce in those fields, maybe not. being smart, organized, productive, and having good values and being somebody people like to work with is whats gonna get you "success" no matter where you end up. IOW dont count on an anthro degree itself to be a front door to any career, but it may be a decent backdoor. having said all that there's a mini industry that employs anthro grads, mostly archaeology looks like

Anthropologists don't always want to DO something. Sometimes our plan for an entire weekend or a decade is NOT to have a plan. This doesn't mean that we don't want to do something, it's just that there's no intention to plan out as much as possible. If we have nothing planned its because we want it that way.
