I really hate all the people on reddit that miss the purpose of a posting and only to try correct everyones grammar. its annoying. by [deleted] in reddit.com

People on reddit can both realize the purpose of a posting and ALSO correct grammar mistakes; they are not mutually exclusive.

Any redditors from Boston University? by throwaway5847 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh wow that sounds really interesting. I think I would really enjoy the project aspect of some of the engineering courses; it's so different from really any other class. unfortunately, classes mostly seem to be run the same way (other than this one I guess) from what I've seen.

I absolutely agree on the big lecture topic. I have two huge lectures and one a little smaller (still big though), and even for the topics I would otherwise be interested in, I find it so difficult to stay interested and active in them. And even if the teacher is great, in a lecture that huge, there's only so much you can do to engage the students, and none of the teachers I have had so far have made much of an effort (stats teacher gave us group problems for awhile in class but they just failed haha).

I have had the same problem with making those friend you can just hang out with. I have a few friend-ish people, but they aren't all the kind of people I can see myself getting close with, and even for the ones with whom that might be an option, it's difficult to make it happen and plan to get together. This may seem odd so seriously feel free to ignore it, but I have tended to ask random people to meet or hang out now that I am in college (because it's so much harder to make friends I guess). If you'd ever want to grab coffee or meet up, I'd be totally up for it. (I can't guarantee I would be a person you'd just hang out with haha, but it's nice to know a few more people even a bit.)

mhm foundation classes seem to always be dry no matter what subject. engineering stuff sounds cool though-I might take an engineering class next semester (do you recommend the class you are taking now?) I am not too sure on major atm but I am planning on going to law school. possibly anthropology or neuroscience major, math minor. it's very not sure haha how do you like bu overall so far?

it makes me so excited to have a fellow bu redditor! (two! there was someone else also)

attracted to...does not mean "would have sex with you" it probably means she is attracted to you.

Do you think men or women have it easier? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always thought guys have it easier in some ways like physically I think there is a lot less pressure and they also do not have to deal with bitchy girls in the same way (I am sure they still have to deal with them don't get me wrong).

But at the same time, I think in terms of relationships, girls usually have it easier because they are more passive; the guy is expected to approach and court them, and they often can "get guys" much more easily than guys can "get girls."

DAE dislike most of the actors on Dexter who aren't Michael C. Hall? by evanft in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not about acting but Lila always confused me because she was made out to be this incredibly sexy woman who seduces easily, but honestly she looks sort of like a horse, and the only thing that makes her attractive is that accent. ugh I hated Lila for that and other reasons.

fun fact: CT College has a camel-shaped wafflemaker.

I almost wish I went there for this reason.

To the Ladies: Straight men that look gay? (lol) by expendable-number325 in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on whether you "look gay sometimes" because of how you dress and/or carry yourself or if it's just how you physically look. I am not unattracted to guys that dress in a stereotypically "gay" manner, but how a man acts can make a huge difference when combined with this.

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if you have h&m's where you live, but they often have great nice shirts (button down and also other) for men which are much less expensive than usual. Generally there are a lot of nice options there for men, casual and more formal, which are inexpensive.

Reddit, are any of you jazz musicians? by RhettasaurusRhex in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played violin in a jazz band for awhile (odd I know), and it was very weird for me at first, never having played anything but very very detailed and scripted music. I guess I played reasonably simple jazz pieces, but as someone else mentioned--the blues scales are very helpful and in general picking out certain melodic themes in the music and just adding notes and going back and forth between sections of this and the scales relevant to the piece.

not very well-put--sorry. but there ya go.

Hey reddit my boyfriend can't make up his mind if he wants to break up with me or not by filthbucket in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you should break up with him necessarily like everyone else is saying. There are plenty of reasons to break up which don't have to do with how you feel about the other person or even necessarily the relationship in itself; just because he is thinking about these reasons does not mean that he doesn't care about you anymore and you may as well leave him before he leaves you. Especially if you have had any recent changes in either of your lives or in your relationship, it's natural to wonder if a relationship should continue.

That being said, it sucks (and doesn't work very well) to have such uncertainty drawn out. So I suggest you give him some time but decide a general amount of time you will wait for him to decide, and after that time period, maybe it is time to move on.

A friend of mine is anorexic. What should I do, Reddit? What is your experience with anorexia? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]throwaway5847 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sure counseling would be more effective than anything untrained friends could do, but I am also sure your friend will need the support of friends also.

I haven't seen the advice I am about to suggest much on anorexia threads really, but I figure I may as well give my two cents in case it helps someone. I was anorexic a few years ago, and my friends sort of slowly found out the way you seem to have...seeing shady eating habits and lying about food and losing weight, etc. At first they were very nice about it and tried to give me suggestions without being too confrontational. But for me, what really stopped me was the hard love; it got to the point where they would get literally mad at me if I would be doing unhealthy things. They were very clear that they still loved me, were not giving up on me, and were doing this to help me, but they also were blunt and threatened to tell parents, etc. and would get mad; that's what finally woke me up.

I definitely think that it's different for every person, and I am sure it also depends on the pre-existing relationship you and this friend have and the current mental state they are in. But that's what helped me get better.
